Bench Seat For 65 Question

I've just bought a restored '65 but the seat doesn't work for me. I think I'd like to go back to a bench seat. My question, can I use a bench seat from a 72 C10?

My current seat is 61" wide. Thanks in advance. Once I figure out how to post a picture I'll post a pic of the seat, maybe someone a little smaller, I'm 6'2" 220lbs, would like it just fine.

Re: Bench Seat For 65 Question

Yep. I have put '68 and '72 bench seats in my old '65. Bolts right in.

Here's a picture of the current seat, not shown is the nice console which folds down. Any idea on what this seat is worth?

Yep, same here. I'm a big fan of those seats, especially if you can find one with the flip down armrest.

Thanks brokenspoke, I may have found a better option at a junkyard today. It's a bench seat from a 80 something Cheyenne. It's better in that it tilts, but seems to sit higher and has plastic around the frame. Should I remove the plastic? Or paint it black. It also has a shoulder strap and retractable seatbelt, should I use them as well? I want to go with a black seat, can you get new belts to replace the old retractable GM belts?

Chevyrestoguy, I saw you had to cut the seat down on your '64. Did you cut it down to 14.25 inches? It looks like it's coming out of a truck about the same year as this Cheyenne.

I took 2" out of the seat bracket height because I like to sit lower in the vehicle. I'm over 6ft tall, and the stock seat position puts my knees in a weird angle. I still plan on changing the brake pedal angle because I don't like having to take my leg completely off of the seat to push on the brake pedal. I would love to have it where I just rock my heel to go between the brake pedal and the throttle. No sure if I can make that happen, but I'm going to try.

And yes, the seat in the picture is the same basic one I used. Mine is a little earlier version that has no headrests, and it was out of a standard cab Silverado, so it has the flip down armrest.

Re: Bench Seat For 65 Question

Chevyrestoguy, what do you think about the seat covers you can buy at LMC or TruckandCarshop vs paying for a complete new cover? Are they as durable? Similar Quality? Do you generally have to replace the foam to get a quality seat for the long haul of using your seat as a daily driver? I found a seat which has better foam but it costs $130 more...about the costs of probably replacing the foam with new foam.
