Hello from Prescott, Arizona
First post in a new forum! I have some experience with this same web page format, in the MINI Cooper - North American Motoring website; I made a few posts there. The smiley icons are different, and I'm sure the crowd is too, but I'm a Gemini so will deal with it.
I have a 1969 Chevrolet C-10 longbed. A friend's grandfather bought it new in Safford, AZ. It had been repainted some time ago, after the front passenger corner was damaged. I don't plan to restore it, but have been using it as a work truck. So far, have replaced the Holley carb, and distributor, so it's running really sweet now. One of my hobbies is taking pictures, so will be sharing those (if I can figure out how to). Look forward to participating here. HAPPY NEW YEAR! |

Re: Hello from Prescott, Arizona
This is how I have to post, using Ipernity: 1) Open two windows. 2) Ipernity: Click on the photo. 3) To the right, click ACTIONS. 4) Go down the drop-down menu, click on </> Share (HTML code / BBCode). 5) At the top, click on the size 1024 (1024 x 768). 6) In the grey box below the picture, click on the dot button for BBCode. 7) In the bottom box with the [vrl=http;...... click, then it highlights. 8) Command C (Apple copy function). _______________________________________________________________ 9) 67-72: click the Insert Image icon. 10) Click in box on the http:/ that is highlighted first..... 11) Then key delete. 12) Then Command V (Apple paste function). 13) Now I have to remove the extra text, leave only the [*mg]http;.....00.jpg.[/*mg] which is the most of only the second line. 14) Click Preview Post to be sure, before submitting.

First time I drove it, August 2, 2012.
Barely made it home, parked for a long time.

Re: Hello from Prescott, Arizona
After tinkering with it, went on it's first errand, to recycle. Hey, keeping these old trucks is a form of recycling! April 16, 2015.

Re: Hello from Prescott, Arizona
Having fun with it. Bike's retail cost was more than the truck (inflation).

Re: Hello from Prescott, Arizona
I did not like just the rod for a gas pedal, and hate the plastic pedal, so I scrounged the scraps and fabricated this, my Red Neck Rat Rod customization.

License plate from my dad's car, I grew up with a Mercedes Benz 190 sedan. Just happened to notice the letter coincidence.

This might make enemies with the show car people.

Re: Hello from Prescott, Arizona
Weight loss program, cut off saddle gas tanks, ditched the plastic bed liner, and the annoying chrome bed rails. Lost about 130 pounds.

Re: Hello from Prescott, Arizona
The sidelights weren't working, was surprised to find out why. This was sold late 1968. I was a little kid then, was fascinated by the new sidelights on new cars, remember some being only reflectors, and some being only lights.

Re: Hello from Prescott, Arizona
After replacing the Holly carb, and the distributor, it has finally been a great running truck. The farthest trip so far has been to harvest some Mesquite, for cooking steak on. This should last awhile.

Temporary accessory, Martha Stewart Christmas lights. Throw in an Arizona sunset for fun.

Re: Hello from Prescott, Arizona
The last customization, Hella headlights. HUGE improvement. About as much as I can afford too. I know the right front had been bashed, that headlight was a PITA to replace, can't be aimed. Oh well, still looks cool, don't it?

Re: Hello from Prescott, Arizona
The more I use it, the more I like my truck!
Half ton of gravel for the driveway, and to park on. Half ton of mud on the bike.

Re: Hello from Prescott, Arizona
Hey Kurt, I see you've been here a little bit already. But welcome to the site. I saw 89A and it caught my attention. I lived for a while between Flagstaff and Sedona in Mountainaire. My girlfriend's mom lived in Prescott, so made a few trips there, including a crazy 4th of July weekend. This was 1980 I think. I've been back but not for almost 20 years. I bet things have changed. Back then mountain bikes had not caught on yet and I had a clunker I built from an old Columbia balloon tire bike with springer fork. Pretty advanced since manufactured mt bikes didn't get suspension till years later. I just found the frame in a farm dump up on a mountain and thought it was interesting. Then found out about Clunkers in Marin County and Crested Butte, searched out parts, fabbed a little and ended up with a trick little bike for riding in that wonderful area.
I enjoyed reading your "tales of truck" as well as seeing the pictures. sorry for the rambling, your thread hit a nostalgic nerve.

Thanks for the comment! When I needed to come up with an alias when I joined a MINI Cooper forum (same template as this site), I thought "where would I rather be than in front of this computer? Driving 89A over to Jerome!" I like how its tumbles over the tongue too, and when one searches names, it's near the top with the #. No apology needed, enjoy your story. Yes, Prescott has changed, been Californicated. But it's still an awesome place to live. Stay tuned, plan to really go nostalgic with Route 66 stuff.

Re: Hello from Prescott, Arizona
Differential check. Seeing so much crud on the axle, I figured it was a good idea to check it. Good thing, it was about a pint low, with lots of metal specks in the black oil.
I brought the cover up to Pebble Beach concours standards, painted with black primer. LOL I then removed about 5 pounds of crap off the axle, so it should handle much better. Don't think this had been worked on for decades.

Re: Hello from Prescott, Arizona
Amateur Hour continued......
The brake reservoir was getting out of hand, making a mess..... Much better, NAPA made in Taiwan. Scary looking vintage rubber hoses had to go! Not so scary looking. Got a month's worth of swearing done, while taking about two hours to fix the last fitting, had to undo the exhaust to gain enough access. Murphy's Law always rears it's ugly head for me.

Re: Hello from Prescott, Arizona
Thank you!
I have decided to polish out the paint, can't maintain an unblemished flat patina. LOL Took some "before" pictures. I like this location, looks vintage with the old style guardrail.
