1979 GMC Shortbed

Hi everyone! I'm new here to the forums and to actually owning and trying to rebuild my truck for that matter.

I joined this forum in hopes of getting some help with repairing my truck I just bought.

There are few things wrong with it and that i need to fix before I can actually start using it.

1. The gauges don't work.
2. The interior needs to be replaced entirely.
3. There are some rust spots in the bed as far as I know.
4. Weathering strips are missing.
5. I need new tires.
6. there is no radio or a/c but i can do without those things.
7. The biggest problem is the smoke that comes out of the truck when I drive it. I comes from the exhaust pipe and it is just a huge plume! Its grey almost blue. Not sure whats causing the problems. what do you think?

I have already changed the spark plugs and replaced the oil.

So I want to start fixing it up.

Where should I start?

Thanks for your help in advance.

Re: 1979 GMC Shortbed

1 check fuses, the take the dash apart and pull cluster out check the circuit and the connector
2 try ebay, craigslist, 73-87chevytruck parts for dashes, door panels, seat covers, and flooring
4 73-87, classic parts, lmc and jc whitney
I'd say after you figure motor brakes, chassis parts, tires, and then the cosmetic stuff
