Re: door skin help

Not sure what you mean by "thin hand tools", You will need a fairly flat smooth surface dolly and a good body hammer ( Eastwood is a good source for GOOD body tools). You will need to clean the inside of the door shell and the flange where the skin folds over be sure to prime this area with weld thru primer. As you start folding the skin flange over work around the perimiter folding in gradual increments, once folded flat fit the door before you weld anything that way you can tweak the door to fit then spot weld top and bottem corners and check your fit again if it aligns to suit you finish spot welding prep prime and seam seal around the lip.If you are careful you can do this without using any filler. Hope this help ya sum!

There is a 90 degree bend around the edge of the replacement door skin usuall 3/8ths to 1/2 in. Not sure if the efabman vids cover skinning a door.

Re: door skin help

The way i do them at work is a little different as above but to each his own.. grind all the edges of the door skin that is attached now. it will split take off old skin..grind all inside edges of where the skin was on the shell. on your new skin grind about a 1/2 inch all the way around the skin , or where ever it makes contact with the shell...Spread Panel Bonding glue all the way around the skin and shell< where you just grinded...place the skin on and get it set where you need it, save the lines on the inside of the shell...place a Flat RUBBER sanding block instead of a metal dolly ,(a metal dolly will not allow the metal to strech with out damage...a rubber one will...) lay the face of the sanding block on the outside of the skin. and just hammer all four corners, fit door .adjust if needed.. once fit, hammer inside edge flat . it doesnt take much,to get it to bend....just work the edge down with a door skin hammer untill this area is flat.... if you need and more info let me know.... grind inside edge of where you just hammerd only a little to reove the paint and grinding will also take away some of your hammer marks..use a good primer on that edge and seam seal , you can use tape to run a nice factory looking line,, let dry seal and paint.. i would go this method just for a future rust issue, most weld through primers are full of zinc, and when left to the kind of moisture the inside of a door will have it will defently break down...especially when the primer is not coverd with paint.. i hope this may help...........tony
