What is this seat out of???

I bought this seat from a fellow board member, I liked it because it was not a fixed back. I have a rear gas tank and want to access behind the seat easily.

Anyway when I bought it he did not know what year it was from.

It fits perfectly in my 71...

I want to order pre made covers for it but I want to make sure they will fit.

Any help is appreciated!

Re: What is this seat out of???

I may be wrong- but that looks very much like a seat out of a '73-'87.

Would a 73+ bolt right in?

Tom thought it might be out of a 67...

I thought the same thing by the seat material pattern.

I agree with the '73 & up idea. If you look, you can see what appears to be the latch that releases the seat.

Could be true.... does it have a metal tag on the back of the seat. Small rectangle tag that will have a date on it? I'm leaning towards a 67-68 seat.

Like this... (not the best picture, but it says 4/17/72)

Re: What is this seat out of???

By the condition of that seat cover and the fact that the backside is covered, points more to a '73+ seat to me.

Re: What is this seat out of???

Well I went ahead and removed the seat back cover and all I found was a black widow, no tag .
I'll take the base off later today when it's not so hot out side.

Re: What is this seat out of???

You have a 73 and later bench seat with earlier 69-72 bench brackets.

I'm not sure if I'm happy about that or not...

But I think you are right after looking at it again, there are some non factory looking bolts holding the front of the tracks to the frame.

Re: What is this seat out of???

Speaking of those black metal tags....

I wonder what the time frame is, from the manufacture of the seat cushion/spring ass'y, to the time that a given truck is assembled?

The tag on my '69 says 9-10-68. If that is anywhere near the time my truck was built, I'm happy to know that at least part of it was built the week I turned 21 years old....on the island of Taiwan.....before Trickey Dick was elected.

I agree. For the record, the seat tilt lever knob and pin is just like the one in my 76 GMC. I think they were that way from 73-80. The brackets themselves can't be from a 73+ because they would make the seat sit much lower. If you look at a 73-87 floor pan, they are raised under the seat to accommodate the saddle fuel tanks underneath them. Interestingly enough, it looks like it is covered with 88-94style material.

Re: What is this seat out of???

After looking again, I think I am wrong about the covering material...hard to tell.
