attn: WI members 9ft stepside found!

There is a junkyard on Hwy. 18 north of a little town called Sullivan. He's got about 15 '67-72's in there, one of them is a c/30 9ft. stepside complete truck. Looked decent yet, in need of work. It is ochre in color but thats all I know about it. I don't know the price or any options on it. Sullivan is down southeast of Madison, southeast of Jefferson. If you are familiar with the area I can describe it a little better. Just thought I'd let you guys on the board know since I can't have another project at home for a while.

that is a rare truck. i would be interested but another board member has already located a 9ft bed for my 67 c-30. there are a couple of us on the board that would be interested in the truck. i personally would buy the bedsides and stepboards if you had the truck and parted it out. you would'nt have any problem getting your money back. could you pm me with the contact info to the junkyard so i could give the guy a call? i'd love to find a complete truck like that but i'm in texas so i would end up paying more for shipping than the truck-i'm still interested in the whole truck if the price is right. pm me or post with info if you can. thanks in advance-sean.

MJN, I'm interested in looking at what this place all has. I haven't been able to find anything around here since moving up several months ago. I also might be interested in doing something with that 9 foot truck too Thanks, Don.

I'm in upper michigan until May bacause of school now. I don't have access to the truck anymore. It would be a couple days until I could get the phone number to the place since I don't have a phone book for that area.

dtlilly, I was down in your area for about 6 weeks working before I came back to school. If you take I94 west to Hwy F at Ixonia, then take Hwy F south to Sullivan. You will meet up with Hwy 18 at the same time, turn right onto 18 north and follow it out of town. The junkyard isn't very far out of town on the left side of the road. I think it's called Auto and Truck salvage but not positive on that. It's pretty rough looking place but the guy is pretty friendly and lets you go walk around if you're looking for something. As you walk in the trucks are to your right. Follow the road parallel to the buildings and the 9ft. should be on your left under some vines and weeds. He's got a few stuck in with the rest of the trucks out there too. I'll try and get there phone number but like I said it will be a couple days.

I'd like to have the phone number if possible. Racedvl and I would like to go browse the yard sometime, but we need to know if he's open on Sunday.

I did a google search and I'm pretty sure I have the number too. Thanks.

MJN, thanks for the info. I'm going to head out there in the morning to see what I might find out. Let me know next time your around, we will have to hook up and drink some beer.. Eh?

Sean (9footfan), I'll have my digi along, so I'll try to get you some pics of the truck. I hope you end of with this, I'm too broke to fix the truck I have.

TJ, sent you a PM.

Well, I went out there and found the truck.

1972 Chevy Custom/30, 9 foot long step side bed.

The good..... 0%

The bad....... 99%

The ugly...... 100%

There literally was not one panel on this truck that did not have serious rust holes. Not surface rust... not pin holes.... but large, gaping, structuraly deficient holes.

I have never in my life seen a truck so rusted away, but I guess that's what I get for being a southern boy and recentely transfered to the north

I believe that even the frame had some serious problems with rust.

Here's the 1% good I could come up with.

1. The truck still has the factory rear end and heavy duty helper springs

2. The truck still had the cigar lighter delete (had, because I put it in my pocket )

3. The truck is so unsalvageable, I think we can say out of the 1542 produced in 1972, there is definately on less

Here's some pics of the poor thing

Well...at least it wasn't a high optioned truck or anything I guess. So were there other 67-72's? Would it be worth Racedvl and I heading up there?

Thanks Don.

There was a 71 Blazer 4X4 there that wasn't totally rusted. No back hatch, double wall top that wasn't trashed. Tailgate was rusty, but has complete tire carrier. Has buckets but no console. Front axel and rear axel there, the front still has the blue lock outs. The inner grille is intact with several minor cracks but no teeth gone. Doors, fenders and tub had some rust. The windshield frame wasn't real bad, had a hole near the rear view mirror but the rest looked good.

Just about everything else there was stripped or trashed out and rusted. everything was long bed except 2 trucks, and the beds were trashed. There were some interesting 61-66 models there that I might have to go back to look at

I'll be posting a thread on GD for all the other pics

dt it's still better in my mind that the elements got that truck than the crusher. i'll be honest with you guys i do not see rust like that down here in texas. you might have something close to that along the gulf coast but man that's pathetic. thanks for the investigation dt-kinda sad knowing there is one less 9 footer in the universe.

Blazerman, When I go back Wednesday for the truck tilt I found, and get a closer look at an early 60's longbed, I'll grab the one off the passenger side, but the drivers side one is half missing.

9footfan, I know what you mean. I was in total shock of the condition of all the vehicles there. That northern rust is worse than I ever expected to see. I want to go back south where a truck is junk because of collision or bad motors
