write down your VIN number then go to www.67-72chevytrucks.com and click on VIN decoder and it should give you the date your truck was built.

try the trim tag (if it has one) on my camaro it was on one of the two a can't remember which. it may not be the same on the two. you'll have to go to google or some other search engine and type in trim tag decode (or something like that) and you should find a place to do it.

I'm not sure about the US...but in Canada you can call GM and give them your Vin # and have them send you a "restopack". A small fee applies but it told me that my truck was produced on Nov. 12th, 1968.

I seem to remember a thread a long time ago that explained the lack US production info was due to a fire in the records department in the head office.

The US side trashed the Build sheets, so you can't get them.

The only way I have found, is if you get lucky and find the build sheet, or if the "born on date" sticker is still in the door.
There is no way to find out by any numbers stamped anywhere. You can take a poll on ppl's VIN's on here of the same year truck, see if any of them know what month theres were built, and make an educated guess.

this is wierd, my son was asking me this morning about when my truck's B-day is. he wants to throw a party. I dont know if a poll would be beneficial for us GMCers. can I make up a date?

I found a little piece of paper jammed in between the foam and springs behind my seat of my '72 C20. It is about a 2"x3" piece of paper.

All it says is "R.C. Acceptance Date 9/24 1971".

I am assuming thats the day it was made...

If you have an original block you can get some idea from those date codes. All the major components on my SB were cast in May of 68. I guess my truck was produced sometime in the summer of 68. I've never found a build sheet on my truck.
