Truck Toppers in Minneapolis/St.Paul, MN

So, I posted a similar question about fitting a newer (Ford) topper onto my '86, and was told it was a no go. So I thought I would re-post and get more specific (hope that's OK)...

I will likely be finding myself in the Minneapolis / St. Paul area in the next few weeks, and was wondering if anyone has a line on a place or places selling new or used fiberglass toppers that would fit our truck. I am curious to see what the price would be. We may be bringing some stuff home from Minneapolis (IKEA) and would like to put it under a cap (I've been wanting one for a while).

I'll be looking around here at home (Winnipeg, MB) as well, but I thought I would ask..

Thanks for the help.

Re: Truck Toppers in Minneapolis/St.Paul, MN

I've looked on ebay trying to find one be it soft or hard for another year, make, model truck to fit the 84 we have.

All i can tell you is measure yours and go from there. Compare it's dimensions to the other vehicle's and see if it would work or not. Most I've seen won't but I never looked into ford ones or dodge for that matter.

Now another option is build your own, not fiberglass but wood. We did that a few years ago on an s-10 we had, used 2 full sheets of OSB plywood, a 1x10 or 12 plank for support where the 2 were joined underneath, some 1x3 furring strips, a gallon jug of liquid nails adhesive, and a hook and loop style tonneau cover. We had the saddleman hook and loop cover, it came with velcro tape that got stuck on the bed to hold it, then the stuff started coming loose from the cover, so we came up with the idea or the wood.

It worked out really nice. You wouldn't even need the hook and loop tonneau if you wanted to go through the process of painting, sanding, or fiberglassing the wood, or use another material and glue it on the wood.

I would check Craigslist first...here are some I found in MN, but you will have to determine if they will fit your truck (most don't list size or vehicle it came off of in the ad)

There is a truck and van shop near me (in Ham Lake), called RADCO, you could try contacting them. They sell all sorts of stuff, including toppers.

Re: Truck Toppers in Minneapolis/St.Paul, MN

Thanks for the input guys - - I really appreciate it.

As far as building one goes, I've thought of that in the past, but have just never done it. Unfortunately, the road trip is coming up, so if I want one for the trip (or return trip) it'll cost me.

I found the website for the Radco place this afternoon as well. They have a location in Burnsville (just of the 35W, south of Bloomington where we'll be). I thought I might call them and see if I can find anything.

Like I said, I haven't really even looked around too much here at home, so I'll do a little of that as well. I just thought maybe the US prices would be better... now that our Canadian dollar is approaching the value of the US greenback - around $0.94 Finally gives us some buying power again.

i got an old black one on my 74 i'll sell ya. little faded tho. if your coming from winnepeg to minneapolis i'd assume you'd take I-29 south. here in grand forks not a mile off the highway there's New-Vision truck accessories (701-746-0083). give em a call and they might be able to have one ready for you when you get by here.

Thanks for the offer man, but I found something here at home. I might decide to paint it white at some point, but charcoal grey works for now. Here it is...

Thanks again.
