Post Steering stops and other?

Alright i was doing the shocks on my truck today and first off what a great position for that top mount! busted a multi angle extension witha 1/2" driver. grr. That said i also noticed my turning stops are way too big i think. I've got 73 discs on this truck (69 c20) and it seems like i could shave probly an inch off the stops on the spindle. Anyone out there done this or say dont do it. I see no rubbing issues at all on the front or rear for at least like 4 inches or so. Will shaving those stops help my turning radius like i think it will?

Ok question 2 is i have the chance to buy a 70 something 350 4-bolt with a set of heads. The block he thinks is 40 over and has been sitting for about 15 years. Both items are off a 70's van so he said the heads are probly just smoggers. He also said possibly a steel crank in the thing. Anyways what should i offer this guy?

I've never built an engine before but i wanna learn bad so i figure a 350 would be my cheapest bet.

Thanks for the help all.

shoulda use same lower arms as the spindles are, 71-up changed location of stops on most models,
'
i wpould investigate the engine alot closer, pull pan and get numbe roff crank and look it up and numbers off heads and avoid heads with last three digits of 882 or 624, 3970010 and 3970014 blocks are most likely what you wil find in 70's vans and trucks til 79. are most common and are very strong and most all are 4 bolt in trucks and vans always. if its been sitting that long and ownt turn with a 5/8" socket and decent size ratchet mouned on the crank pulley both head then its gonna need work and you better not give him much for it unless you are desperate.
good luck

Ah that top shock mount. It's acually a piece of cake with the motor out. LOL I use a craftsmen 1/2" ratchet with the socket that fits it.[Brainfart can't think of the size] No exstenstion,it will barely fit and you can only get one click at a time but it works.

wil be either 11/16 or 3/4 depending on if factory or not, some are one and some are other, and its not fun, and headers make it even harder, i always install the later stud style hardware if hasnr already been done then all ytou gotta do is remove the smaller nut on the outside of the frame rail on the end of the stud itself and pry off the shock top eyelet,. easycake
