West Coast Rust
I have a question for those of you located around the north-west coast.
I am considering taking a job for about 3 months along the northern Oregon coast and I am worried about how my truck would fair. I would mostly be working about a mile inland. It would be parked outside and covered. How much damage do you think could happen in 3 months? -Thanks

Re: West Coast Rust
It's a little of both. It has some minor rust spots that are starting to creep up.

Re: West Coast Rust
If you live on the Oregon coast you will get more rust than if you live inland, but three months probably won't do any real damage.

Re: West Coast Rust
Salt in the sea air, even a mile inland, will leave a thin film on everything. You'll notice it most on your windows & mirrors. Not to worry (especially for just three months), just rinse the truck now & then, including underneath.

Re: West Coast Rust
Every coastal area I've ever been in had carwashes with underbody wash.I haven't been to the NW coastal areas but would assume they have the same.If you keep the salt rinsed off good there's no reason to think you would have any damage.

Re: West Coast Rust
Well,I'm not on the Pacific NW coast. But,I have lived along the coast in various parts of the country and I have noticed any scratch or exposed metal will show accelerated growth. I suggest carefully putting Permatex Rust Treatment on any such areas and it will be protected. If that's going to be hard to do w/o getting it on the paint around it (probably will and it will show),then I'd spray a thin lubricant, like WD40) on those areas. It will wash off later. Covering over night is good, but try to keep it hosed off as much as possible and keep putting the WD40 on.

Re: West Coast Rust
I was on the central OR coast for 4 years. Didn't notice any rust in that time. Just keep it clean and waxed and you will be fine.
