wiring help on 6.2 diesel to 350 swap

hey guys, i need some help from you guys that know your wiring. I have an 87 chevy 1 ton rollback ive been working on. it was a 6.3 diesel truck. I swaped in a 350, w/ hei dist. Anyways, the truck is an absolute wiring mess. someone had cut wires, took off all the loom, its bad. I want to know the absolute minimun wires this thing needs to have lights, blinkers and run. so far i have the wire to the starter (purple i belive) and the main power to the starter, it has alt wiring, and dist wire. What wires do i need to power up the fuse box?

i know the power goes to the starter and the ground to the block. Does the wire off the alt power up the fuse box? it has that fuse block on the firewall but there are wires going everywhere.

as far as gauges go all i need is the speedo and the rest i can put mechanical gauges in under the dash.

so if anyone can help me get this thing running thatd be great thanks!!

Matt

Re: wiring help on 6.2 diesel to 350 swap

The main battery cable attaches to the starter right ? From there a 10 gauge wire comes up from that same terminal and connects to the alternator, then to the block on the firewall. The fusebox then gets it's power from that block.

If it's just the engine side of the harness that's hacked, it will unplug from the fuse box and one in good shape from a donor truck will hook right in.

would an engine harness from a gas motor truck work with the cab of a diesel powered truck? i already put the gas motor in the truck.
