Parking brake cable question
So I am redoing the rear brakes on my 68 c10. I have two questions. On the intermediate cable there are these plastic guards where it passes through the frame. Does anyone know where I can get replacement ones or if they even matter? My second question is about installing it in the guide attaches to the rod on the passenger side. I got a new cablend from inline tube. The end is slightly larger than stock and I can't get it through the guide. Any ideas? I tried spreading it apart but thar didn't work. May need to file down the cable end or something. Thanks

Re: Parking brake cable question
Can you tell me more about the cable end and how you secured it? A local shop was trying to make a parking brake for me and we had trouble trying to crimp ferrules on the end of the cable (that or my leg is super-powerful, jury is still out on that).
They did make it work right in the end of course, but I ripped it off the first attempt and he had to improvise. I'm curious as to what Inline supplies and how you secure it on the cable.

Re: Parking brake cable question
I can post a better picture when I get home, but it came crimped from them. Looks kinda like a cylindrical fishing weight but bigger.

Re: Parking brake cable question
Does the rod come off somehow? If it does I could put the cable in the bracket then insert the rod. The problem is the rod ends seem formed in place and I would need to cut the rod to get it off.

No the rod doesn't come off, you need to work the cable end through the bracket under the rod. It won't hurt to grind off just enough to let the cable end to slip under the rod. My original was hard to get under there also and it was probably a little smaller diameter than your new one.

Re: Parking brake cable question
Thanks. The original did come out but I had to wiggle it good. For some reason the inline tube one has 4 total ferrules (2 at each end and 2 in the middle) the factory one only has one at each end. If I am lucky I will only need to file 2 of them. Oh well.

Re: Parking brake cable question
You could just make the slot in that bracket a little deeper to get the ferrule under the rod. Might be easier than filing the ferrules.
