Body side moulding price differences?

Shopping for a body side moulding kit for my 70.

One vendor kits price is 325 another vendor is 498.
The highers price is almost 100% made in America.

Is the american that much better in quality and will it last over the long haul?

Thanks for your opinions.

Re: Body side moulding price differences?

I've used both moulding from LMC and moulding from Mar-K, the moulding from Mar-k is much better looking and fitting than the lmc.

Who are the vendors.I`d need to know if they are selling different trim or just have different stories.Ask these vendors who makes the pieces.

Re: Body side moulding price differences?

I know the more expensive is made in america with the exception of one or two pieces of the very short molding pieces. (mar-k)
The lower price is atheys classic trucks, but I have not talked to Bill specifically about country or origin.

Well for me it would be a no brainer!! Why would you buy something that is made any other place than the USA when it is availible to you? At least with buying the USA made version you know that you are feeding an American family with your American money. Just my .02

Re: Body side moulding price differences?

Thank you John as I see u and I would be great friends even without the trucks
Prime example: The replica of the Veit-nam memorial wall was here in Lousville over the past weekend and I went to it with my dad, it was really nice(I have been to the real one ,but it has been 18 yrs) They had a tent with a lot of era correct stuff that was the cat's meow, but at the end of the tent sat a travel trailer with a woman selling T-shirts that had POW_MIA(prisoner of war, missing in action) on the front and map of the US with red stars for every stop on the walls tour. They said they were selling the T's to help with some of the cost for transporting the wall from city to city. My dad asks me if I want one as he got ready to buy himself one, until I looked at the label, YEP YOU GUESSED IT HUECHO EL MEXICO(MADE IN MEXICO) CAN YOU BELIEVE IT? Americans died for the effort in Veit-nam, The American tax payer got to pay for the construction of the wall, Americans spend American dollars every year for the upkeep and matnance of the Wall, but do Americans get to produce the shirt remembering the Americans tha died in the War? NO. It made me sick to my stomach when I read the label, and I told my dad I couldn't wear this shirt with a clean consience. I said to the lady, why couldn't Americans make this shirt to remember the Americans that Died for US? She was speechless, other than to say I was the first to mention it, funny that is I said. I guess people just don't care about what the label says anymore, just the $$$$. OK Rant off, Thanks for letting me vent. Randy

Well for a guy with 2 small children and a wife in college when she is not taking care of the 2 babies every penny counts(this happens to be me). I "buy american" as much as I can, however the original intent of the thread is to inquire specifically about quality differences such as fit, finish, etc. Just trying to justify the extra money mentally. One has to count the cost of everything in my situation.

Re: Body side moulding price differences?

I can't tell you for sure on this part but typically on these trucks the american pieces seem to be higher quality.

Re: Body side moulding price differences?

No one cares about the $$$$ more than the US Government that sends young men to war.A US made t-shirt would cost twice or more. The idea is to put as much money as possible towards support of the traveling wall and in return, you get a cheap t-shirt.It ain`t about the shirt,it`s about "The Wall".I`m as American as they come, but you gotta look at the big picture sometimes.

Re: Body side moulding price differences?

No doubt about it, buy American quality when there's a choice. It cracks me up whenever I hear people trying to justify selling or buying lesser quality goods from other than made in USA whenever that option exists. If it were me, I'd buy the American moulding kit, pay the man and don't apologize for sh*t. Good luck with your project.

Re: Body side moulding price differences?

I WAS A TOOLMAKER ALL OF MY ADULT LIFE. (RETIRED NOW) I OWE EVERY THING I'VE EVER HAD TO AMERICAN INDUSTRY, PUT A KID THRU COLLEGE, BOUGHT SEVERAL DIFFERENT HOUSES, ALL THE TOYS ANYONE COULD EVER WANT & GENERALLY MADE A GOOD LIVING. YOU CAN BET THAT I WON'T BE BUYING ANYTHING.. I MEAN ANYTHING THAT I HAVE A CHOICE IN THATS MADE IN ANOTHER COUNTRY. I KINDA LIKE THIS COUNTRY & WOULD KINDA LIKE TO SEE AT LEAST SOME AMERICAN INDUSTRY SURVIVE. EVERYBODY ELSE CAN DO WHATS BEST FOR THEM. MY DAUGHTER LIVES IN LONDON & I WOULDN'T EXPECT HER TO BUY ANYTHING BUT A EUROPEAN CAR. JOHN
