Valuation Help, Considering Purchase
We have a 72 K5 that was purchased new by a family member, but then went to a close family friend for the last decade. I let that family friend know I wanted to bring it back into our family and wanted first chance to purchase it and he is honoring those wishes as he reaches his later years.
I want to pay him a fair value and wanted opinions on what a fair value would be. He isn't looking to make a killing on it. It does need a restoration as it hasn't been garaged much in its life, but I do personally know the entire history. I set up my first mule deer on the tailgate at age 12, so there is a sentimental value in this one. Original motor Replacement trans 3 years ago Original miles (34K, never turned over). Most are small town miles, mountain trails hence the bumps and bruises Never in an accident Pretty well optioned Thoughts on value appreciated! I'm buying it no matter the price, just want to treat him fairly. 2018 and older values I felt confident in, but post covid I'm just not sure. Apologies if I'm being paranoid with the blurred out plates, I don't want anyone to try to pull this one away. I hope you guys can understand! |

Re: Valuation Help, Considering Purchase
Since it was owned by family and now owned by family friend and you shown interest I would say pretty good spot to negotiate. JD Powers low about 12K from what I see would be 4-5 k if it runs good.
good luck 7D2N

Re: Valuation Help, Considering Purchase
I really hope you get this back.
You are the Rightful / Best owner for this piece of history. If you Know what he paid for it that would be a Useful tool. The transmission cost him some money. $5000.oo would be a good starting point. Daddy always told me to not price another man's stuff. I would ask what he thought the starting price that he is thinking of.

5000 would be pretty low in my opinion for a Highlander with air. Be nice if you could get it for that but I think I’d feel guilty at that price

Re: Valuation Help, Considering Purchase
If that was cleaned up even a little, and running, guys would line up to buy that Highlander for an asking price of $15k or more IMO.

Re: Valuation Help, Considering Purchase
$5K is way too low. $12K sounds a bit more reasonable.

Some more info for context, it is fully 100% running and has been maintained mechanically. AC works, motor has fresh fluids, and he drives it regularly around the little town.
I was thinking the $15K mark felt very fair. It does need a lot of cosmetic items to properly restore. |

How does the a/c work without a compressor? |

Re: Valuation Help, Considering Purchase
Here's a comparison Highlander that quickly brought over $20k (can't recall if it ran at the time): https://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/...&postcount=369

Re: Valuation Help, Considering Purchase
How are the torsion boxes, rocker box end caps, A pillars, b pillars, floor supports, etc? There's alot going on underneath, that typically rusts. It becomes a can of worms if you want to do it right.
10k plus is not a stretch, definitely worth more, and definitely potential to be worth a lot more. As said before 72 AC Highlander. If those are factory front seats, with the rear is probably 3k on the open market just for parts! I'd ask him to set a price, hopefully its low, and you can offer him a little more. A close family friend would be fair, good luck! That's a gem worth saving!!!! |

Re: Valuation Help, Considering Purchase
It's highly optioned and looks to be complete.
If the family friend bought it a decade ago, the prices then were much lower. I imagine he probably paid 5K or less for it. If you can get it somewhere between 7,500 & 10,000 you could get your money back easily. I've seen them in a lot worse shape asking 15K
