Whats the oddest motor you've seen in a 67-72?

the oddest motor i've seen is a 500 caddy motor, but i'm sure there has been some unique motors swapped into these trucks, what have you seen?

LOL, would it have enough torque to move the truck even?

In the bigger (40 up) series the 4 cyl detroit diesel may have been optional, but not in a pickup. i dont even know where the guy got the engine from to be honest.

The oddest I've seen was the 6.2 diesel that my uncle had installed in my 72 before he gave it to me...

When I bought my 67 short fleet, it had a mopar 440 with a 727 torqueflight. I tried giving the engine and tranny away with no takers and ended up taking it to the dump. It ran very well. I was surprised noone wanted it.

The oddest I have ever seen was by my cousin. He is a diesel mechanic and he once put a diesel engine out of a crane complete with 2 transmissions contected in series in a truck. It had a heck of a granny low.

I have no idea how he did it. It was several years ago and I didn't have any interest in the details at the time. I wish he still had it so I could look at it more closely.

a diesel was a factory option? would that make it the rarest option? i have never heard of it before this thread. might shoot some holes in the several threads about rare options of late!

I may be wrong on the 3 cyl diesel. I saw info on repairs for it in my factory service manual. it may have been only in the cab-chassis models. BTW I am talking about GMC only. you know, "we are professional grade"

There is a 69-70 sitting in a salvage near me that has a Buick Nailhead in it. Too bad the truck is such a disaster.

I think it was in the chevys, but only in the P-30 trucks.
I have no literature on that...but I read/heard this somewhere.

I was considering putting a 3cyl. Detroit in mine. But i think it's gonna be too much hassle than it's worth. The motor is sitting in a 70 van. No way to hook up A/C, and a top speed of 65, plus who knows what it will do to the resale value (Unless I say it was a rare option... hehe). Anyway, it's a 2 stroke diesel! Its pretty wierd, ive never really seen anything like it. I guess it's supposed to sound killer.

My '69 has a Caddy 472 in it. I really like the power but my tires don't.

P.S. If anyone wants info on this swap, send me a PM and I will do my best.

Theres a silver 70 Burb around Detriot with a 409. Saw it at a local once a week car club meeting in Redford. The install was sweet,he just had to delete the stock heater box to clear the head and valvecover.
