Tips on Weld-Steel to cast Iron?

I'm needing to reattach the "Track Bar" to the new rear end (93 chevy, 2wd)...so in other words weld the track bar bracket from my 69 read end I grinded off onto the newer 93 rear end?

Tips on welding? Steel Bracket will be the piece where I need to weld/attach to the cast iron rear end and one end of the track bar will mount there? I'm rambling now trying to explain this...but if you get what I mean....any tips?

Preheat the cast iron (really hot) and use a nickle rod. Or go with a custom length bar and weld to the tube

I doubt you will get a satisfactory weld to the casting. Generally speaking, you simply don't weld cast iron unless you absolutely have to, just because of its poor weldability and poor strength after welding.

I would do as stated above, custom track bar and make a bracket to weld to the axle tube.

DONT do this.
Get an adjustable track bar from ECE, CPP or whoever. DONT try to weld a bracket to that differential. There is a process that might allow you to do it without cracking, but it would involve completely disassymbling the rear end.
Look, I have an extra adjustable track bar from ECE that wouldnt clear my trussed 9"
you would need to make a bracket for the passenger side trailing arm or buy one from ECE, but this is the right way to do this.

^^^^^^ 2+ on that. Welding cast iron is rarely successful for anything beyond ornamental non-load bearing applications. There is a process for welding it, but it involves Furnas pre-heat, TiG, Furnas post heat. Zy-glow testing, bla bla bla.

It can be done, but as the others have said, I wouldn't. You are better off with a longer bar that would attach further away from the center of the housing anyway.

It takes a skilled hand to weld cast iron and make it pretty, but it takes help from god to keep it from snapping. it can be done, I just don't know how much faith I'd put in it from a safety standpoint.
