Re: What did you get done 2/12/12 valentines edition

Didnt get anything done on my truck, but I helped my buddy tear apart his new (to him) '80 swb 4x4. We'll be doing a frame off resto on it, nothin fancy, just building a good daily driver/work truck. Plans so far include a 4" lift, 33" mudders with 18s, bad@ss sbc/700r4, etc....tryin to get it done by June, cant wait!!

Worked on it for 3 or 4 hours last night, got quite a bit done I think! Stripped it down to just the chassis and cab, completely gutted the interior, ended up with a gigantic pile of scrap metal, lol

Re: What did you get done 2/12/12 valentines edition

Some parts came in that were needed for the upgrades that I'm doing for the dually. I got a heated o2 sensor & a custom calibrated chip for my motors/drivetrains specs from Harris Performance.

With those parts now in hand, I needed to source some mounting hardware for the heated o2 sensor upgrade. Not wanting to pay more for shipping/handling than what an actual o2 mounting bung would cost, I sourced some spark plug anti-fouler fittings I could pick up locally to use instead. After a little 'hacking' for use in a different application, I got them welded into the header collectors & chased the threads to ensure proper tension. Today, I test fit the header w/the o2 sensor installed to 100% verify clearance & then got the computer chips swapped around. While outside, I also tweaked the req'd mounting hardware for the pwr-steering pump conversion (I had to cut 4 longer M10x1.5 thread bolts down to 2 different correct sizes).

While validating the final pwr-steering pump mounting fit, I decided the current accessory bracket coating was not acceptable as it's already flaking off in multiple areas (MarHyde etching primer & gloss black rattle can). So, the brackets were pulled off the motor & are heading to the coaters w/the headers this week.

1 step forward, 2 steps back..... for @ least a week .

Re: What did you get done 2/12/12 valentines edition

Not a hole lot done this week end but got new tires for wifes truck wends. Installed them and sold the wheels we had on it. Went to junkyard and got ac box for her truck. Only action the burb seen was taking old wheels to buyer. And wife cleaned the blue junk off of the white letters on her new tires.

Re: What did you get done 2/12/12 valentines edition

friday worked on mounting the wiper motor under dash but it decided to lock up on me its been kind of finicky since I've owned the truck I believe its original motor so went picked up a reman 85-87 unit since they look much cleaner without the washer pump on them but that fare as I got
Saturday I had to work all day I thought I had this problem vehicle figured all out thats been kicking my but all week but no such luck, with my frustration I spent the rest of the day watching tv
Today I went to the Dallas boat show with my old man lots of nice boats but even nicer scenery when I got home I worked of my yjs driver side window hasn't rolled up correctly since I had to break in two it a couple weeks ago when I locked the keys in it it usually I don't even lock the doors but for som reason I did that night. The window would stop 1/8" before it went in side the top of the door, then all a sudden it wouldn't roll up or down at all took the regulator out it was all bent to heck and 25 year old grease was gunk up straighten the regulator in the big vise and cleaned the gunk out with some bc added some new lube installed it back in door work better than new

Cut my exhaust and re-routed it to go over the transmission crossmember on passenger side, after that was done I went home and painted walls.

Re: What did you get done 2/12/12 valentines edition

Started making a sleeve puller for my Allis so I can get the motor rebuilt and get it out of the way of the truck projects. Didn't have correct thickness and size pf plate so welded some together (good practice), lathed one side smooth (good practice), then this week cut out the pulling plate and make the hole in the support plate to size. Can't wait to get it done so I can work on the truck.

Re: What did you get done 2/12/12 valentines edition

Took advantage of nice weather and the fact that I have mornings free to myself! (aka kitchen pass)

Saturday scored bunch of parts from a local pick JY (50% off sale) - couple of alternators, throttle cable, smog diverter valve (just because I live in eco-stupid CA), sensors, relays galore for various projects.

Sunday walked the LBC Vet memorial car swap - several very nicely Sq-bodies in the coral. Sorry no quality photos this time. Got some tools and shop supplies.

Put some miles on a new engine, which is slowly is breaking in.
