Primewell tire - cant get the factory film off of em.... - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Anyone ever buy these tires? I'm used to coming home with my new BFG T/A's and squirting them with Westley's bleach white and, voila, clean purty tires. These were just about the only local tires I could find in 235/75/15 with black walls on both sides. But I've been scrubbing for almost 2 hrs and have only gotten thru 2 tires - and they're still not perfect, but getting there. Have tried Westleys, Stoner's glass cleaner (best option so far) and everything I can think of with scrub brushes, fine 3m scrub pads, you name it - but still, there is some shi$ty film on them that looks like crap. Any ideas - this is simply unbelieveable, never seen anything like it. Appreciate any ideas.

I would try a brass wire brush.

thanks - will give the sos a try. gotta go buy some. i've never seen anything like the mess on these tires - it's not like the blue stuff that protects white letters, it something that shows up with whitish-yellow streaks in the wake of wherever you just rubbed it. The only minor success I've had is to scrub the dickens out of it with a dry micro-fiber towel. What a reda$$....

I normally use Castrol Super Clean on mine , I use it straight out of the container .. Pretty strong , Don't let it get on the paint .... Rinse good ... Hope this works if you try ..

SOS pad + Castrol Super Clean = one set of nice clean tires. Like mentioned above, just don't get in on the paint (clear coated, or painted rims either).

i bought a set of prime wells last month, raised white letters look yellow.

interesting Fred - I wonder if you've got the same goopy factory protective coating my blackwalls have on them... I picked up some sos pads today, but even if it helps, I am having some luck with just lots of elbow grease. Lots and lots of elbow grease. Have 3 of the 5 (got a spare too, joy) done and after I finished cursing Primewell, they look pretty good. Rims are powder coated (you may recall the big voting runoff awhile back - and yes, I went with white to match the roof and trim strip). Will post pics when i get it all together. PC guy did a super job - if anyone's looking for a PC recommendation in southern md, PM me and I'll pass along. Super helpful. Not cheap - but in the end, compared to some hokey halfway powder coat that i got from stockton wheel in CA - I'm willing to pay a few extra bucks to get it done right. Local guy did the entire rim - looks like he dipped it, it's so thorough. Anyway - pics coming. Gonna be out of pocket next week though. Thanks for the help guys- wish I'd picked up some castrol engine degreaser today too!
