Original AM radio with FM and Aux input
I just bought a nice 1971 Cheyenne after years of looking for the right truck. It has what appears to be an original radio. This radio has apparently been rebuilt with FM capabilities and an aux input. When I turn the radio on I get stereo FM. I cannot figure out how to switch to AM or the auxiliary input. Anyone know about these?

The FM/AM selector should slide left to right.

I am trying to attach photos. The aux cord is in the glove box.

Re: Original AM radio with FM and Aux input
If you are getting FM stations out of that radio, someone has been inside the radio and done a conversion, of some sort. Aux use and AM use are dependent upon the conversion done and there are too many alternatives for me to definitively help. Bruce

Re: Original AM radio with FM and Aux input
Yes it has been converted. I know it probably has something to do with the preset buttons but they don't seem to change the radio off of FM. They seem to just be presets. I was just hoping someone had some knowledge of how these things work. I have seen a few companies that convert radios but I haven't been able to get any info. Thanks for replying

Re: Original AM radio with FM and Aux input
Did you try cycling it on and off quickly? Mine is able to change functions that way.
I have one in my 69 Z/28 that was converted by Greg at S&M Electro-Tech, Inc. Link Below http://www.turnswitch.com/ The instructions are on his website.

Re: Original AM radio with FM and Aux input
On some of those conversions, when you plug your devise into the aux input, it automatically overrides the FM signal. No button to push, just plug it in.

Re: Original AM radio with FM and Aux input
A guy named Gary Tayman did mine, google him, he’s in Florida, mail him your radio and he transforms it to fm and Bluetooth

Re: Original AM radio with FM and Aux input
I've done the aux conversion several years ago. I guess it still works.
