Auto Tranny Cross-member (member? you member!)

I have 2 auto transmission crossmembers for our trucks. as you know these are needed when converting to an auto tranny. One has all 4 mount, locations and one has the upper mounts removed, (probably to run exhust )
40.00 for the one pictured and 30 for the other (with the upper mounts) both are very solid. out of NM trucks no rust!!!
plus the ride

Re: Auto Tranny Cross-member (member? you member!)

A little new to this but are the cross members not the same (TH350 to SM465)? I thought they just used different tranny mounts. I am looking in to some swapping.

Re: Auto Tranny Cross-member (member? you member!)

no they are different and they are in different locations on the frame. the manual tranny ones sit right behind and under the firewall while the auto tranny ones that I have sit under the cab, like under the bench seat more or less, the manual traany have a mount on either side of the tranny while the auto tranny have one mount in the center rear of the trans

which one are you needing? the one in the picture or the one with the 2 additional arms rivited on. (great for trucks with alot of torque but get in the way of some custom exhaust systems) 15 dollars for the one in the pic. 22 for the other

Re: Auto Tranny Cross-member (member? you member!)

I have a 68 1/2 ton 4WD Suburban that currently has a manual 4 speed transmission
in it and I will be converting it to an automatic very soon. Which ever cross member you have that will work for that application, if either one will work, I will take it so
just PM me the details if either one will work....

As far as I know, 4x4 are different than 2wds. 4 speed and automatic crossmembers are the same in 4x4's. The lower bracket on 4x4 is deeper. No difference between 2wd bb and sb.

Ive never seen a 4wd tranny crossmember. yeah I guess that would be a big difference. These are from 2wd trucks. Sorry about that

Re: Auto Tranny Cross-member (member? you member!)

I need help men:

I want to use an new aluminum Bell housing without the lower mount bolts in my 71 C10 Shortbed 3 speed /350ci. My truck frame has no provision right now for a mount to the tail of the transmission. Originally it had a steel bell with 2 tapped mount flanges up front and only rear support from the center carrier bearing of the 2 pc drive shaft.

Can I use one of these?

Re: Auto Tranny Cross-member (member? you member!)

no I dont think this would work for you, if you fab it to mount the rear of the manual tranny I would think that you angle would be all wrong. sorry man, now if youre converting to a auto tranny than this is whatg you need but you will have to remove the manual tranny crossmember

I have a 454 with a muncie 4speed in my 70 2wd blazer with a 2wd auto crossmember...No mods at all...If your 3 speed has a trans mount location...some do..it will work..I have done that before

Re: Auto Tranny Cross-member (member? you member!)

I know this is an old post but I sure do need a transmission cross member. I have no idea really what I need. I have a 72 stepside GMC that originally had a straight six in it with a 3 speed manual transmission...column shift. The PO converted to a Turbo 350 Auto Transmission (I think...) and used some ugly half assed crossmember that barely spans the width of the frame. I would like a nice clean crossmember.

So would one of your crossmembers work for my application? If so shipping to 39114? And lastly, I'm financially embarrassed right now and have commitments for my only spare $100.00 for a bumper I'm buying next weekend. If this will work could you possibly wait a couple weeks till March 5?

Re: Auto Tranny Cross-member (member? you member!)

Thanks...done deal then. Let me buy the bumper next weekend, and then I'll get with you on your address and I'll mail you a check. I had a pay pal account a long time ago but I've changed companies, and email addresses since then and I basically just haven't gone through the trouble of setting up another account.

Re: Auto Tranny Cross-member (member? you member!)

I went to post a youtube of it in my thread, but there was some mild cursing in there. We try to keep it family friendly round here...I havent seen his show, I just hear him on my sirius radio in my car.

Ok, back to the regularly scheduled truck thread lol

Re: Auto Tranny Cross-member (member? you member!)

I am the guy with the 3 speed Saginaw tranny that I need to incorporate a rear tail housing transmission mount. I changed the stock steel bell housing over to an 11" alum, but the alum has no bolt up provision in the bottom of it like the stock had.

My tranny has a two hole threaded mount pad on the bttm of the rear of the tail housing under the local where the drive shaft yoke slides in.

I am considering buying a universal cross member from ClassicParts for a 50's era Chev Trucks because it is only 50$. I could then cut/weld/mod to make it fit.

I thought the 50`s era trucks frame rails were spaced closer together than our trucks, Well if you decide you want to try a stock, mine does have the 2 hole mount provision. My 4 bolt crossmember has been spoken for but I still have the 8 bolt crossmember. it would be 67.00 shipped
