egr intake block off?

Im replacing the factory cast iron 4 bbl intake (72 350)with a factory aluminum one, the only difference is the alum one has the egr port that has to be blocked off. My question is, if the intake gasket blocks it off on the bottom side, do i really need to block off the top? Even experienced engine builders have questions sometimes lol.
