A/C INFO Problems about solved - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Hi All!

Well I think I am about done troulbleshooting the A/C I added on the 1972 Chevy Stepside.

I could not get below 62 degrees at night and 70 degrees during the day.

What I found out was 2 things that are very important(to a novice like me).

1. the right side kick panel vent needs to be open(recirculate inside air)
2. Adhjust the DAMN cable properly on the HOT Cold(mine was alittle off, and allowing the hot & cold to mix)....DOH!!!

Now I checked temp and it is 42-45 degrees...sweeeeet!!!

I went ahead and bought a new Expansion and POA valve so I will get that replaced soon just for giggles. I read the setup about that at:

One thing that I did was to add a manual Ball-Valve in the heater hose to positively shut-off the hot water flow through the heater core. My air temps (at the vents) dropped to @34°F. I do open the valve at-least monthly to make sure the water doesn't sit too long in the heater core.

I did the ball valve idea and it works great!!! I bought mine at Lowe's, Home Depot probably has them too.

Yes! A meachanic once showed this idea to me! Works well, look for the Brass units if you can find one. Might be another good way to flush out the sytem by having a location to access with as well.
I belive on the right side vent on the factory system in that year that there is a vacuum controlled set up on that vent????
