79 Silverado long box build

Hey guy's i'm new to this forum, mostley been on my other car forum all my life haha. Anyways, its the trucks turn to be fun. I'm planning on swapping a 4x4 frame onto my 79 silverado.
I found a 79 GMC 2500 for 500 bucks (canadian) and its in pretty good shape! got rust free doors and rust free bed floor. Hopefully i'll be picking that up this friday.

Everything is open for suggestions!

As it sits.

In the end Something like this hopefully

Pictures are to come soon I promise. Monday i'll identifying what I got. and maybe clean out the bed.

Anybody know what size of rim would be ideal for a 35" by 13.5 tire?

Re: 79 Silverado long box build

If you're going to go with a 35" tire, I'd go with a 15X10 wheel with 35X12.50 15 tires. They make a great combination and look great. Personally, I don't like tires that are too wide.

Re: 79 Silverado long box build

I'm thinking of stepping it up to a 6" lift by rough country and going with a 35 or 37. If i do 37 it'd probably look better with a 16'' rim

Well got the Green B***erd down to the bare frame today. Time to start sanding away and paint the frame.

Am i going to need the floor pan from 4x4?

Cool build! Yeah you are going to need a high hump out of a 4x4 or manual 2x4.

Ok thats what I was thinking. Is that the part that is bolted down? I kinda want to take the cab to the junkyard before i start ripping my normal truck apart.

Re: 79 Silverado long box build

Depending on what your floor looks like you might need the removable hump and the section behind it. Check this out: http://forum.73-87chevytrucks.com/sm...?topic=11838.0

Bought a new Camera, so you guys can expect pics finally. Right now the entire body is off the frame of the gmc. Time to start cleaning it up and paint.

Re: 79 Silverado long box build

Yeah Hopefully. I got the rear axle replaced. good brakes on it and everything. Cracked open the diff and I think the fluid didn't even have 1000kms yet.

Rough country 6" Will be here tomorrow or Monday.
LMC sent out there Cab to frame bushings today. Little slow. But forgiven.

After the 5th, I'll be ordering inner fenders and paint/primer.
