Nice project, I helped my brother build one a couple of years ago. I always liked Panels.

Re: Diesel's 56 Chey Panel Van

Thanks guys
I'm real excited to get started on. But I have to recoup the saves before I start any major resto on it.

Thanks Jared
I think this Panel build is gonna be at a snails pace to start too.
I enjoy checking in once in a while on your build.

Re: Diesel's 56 Chey Panel Van

Awesome! Looks like quite the find. I love a panel. When I was 16 my Grandpa and I were going to try to buy me an old panel, I didn't know what make model or year, just that we were gonna find me a panel. Then he gave me a 64 GMC with a V6 305 and a utility box. I thought it was cool till I got into the stupid import thing as a kid and traded it off. Sorry, didn't mean to hijack the thread. Just got to rambling about how cool panels are. Congrats on the sweet project!

Re: Diesel's 56 Chey Panel Van

Today I went to give him the cash.
You know when something Just Doesn't feel right ???

Let me paint the picture.
The truck and keys are here in Northern Ontario.. (So am I and the brother of the guy who owners the truck)
Owner of the truck is somewhere in Edmonton Alberta or somewhere out west...(so is the legal title/ownership) I've never talk to the owner...
Just communicated through the brother in Ontario

In order for me to hand over the cash, I want a signed receipt by the owner on the title/ownership and the signed ownership.

The brother was going to give me a photo copy of the ownership and a receipt signed by him + the keys to the truck.

I SAID PASS.... I think I will just wait until the owner mails the real ownership and a receipt for my cash.
Now I'm keeping my fingers crossed so that he doesn't sell it to somebody else.

Should I have taken the photo copied ownership and a receipt for my money from the brother just to have the keys
in my hand? And take his word for it, that the real ownership will be here soon.
Or wait it out and do it properly?

Re: Diesel's 56 Chey Panel Van

If I pay for something large I want it and the title.

How come you have not called the owner to talk with him and leave the brother out of it?

Re: Diesel's 56 Chey Panel Van

My idea would be to have the owner fill out the bill of sale form and fax it directly to you. I bought a truck in Manitoba in this fashion.

Here's a link to the bill of sale form.

If the owner signs this form and faxes it to you then it is legally sold to you.

In addition, there are folks here on the forum who are from Edmonton. I'm sure some of us Albertans could help out.

Don't give up. Maybe you can give him a small deposit to hold it until the owner sends the proper paper work.

The brother here told me that the brother that owns the truck travels alot and is hard to get a hold of. The family has to wait for him to check in every couple of weeks. Apparently he has no phone (Land line or cell) and no internet.

That's a great idea.... I really want to speed this along. They say this is alot of the fun in classic trucks
The excitement of the hunt. I'm done... I just want it to be mine so I can get started to work on it.
I'm gonna ask this guy to fax everything to me, if he hasn't mailed it already.

I'm gonna offer him a deposit today. Just to secure it, and he won't sell it out from under me.
Thx Dennis

That sound a little fishy. Who dosn't have a phone these days? How's he going to all the sudden mail the title or even fax it? Make sure the vin# matches. From the pics I could not tell if the vin # was there. Should be on windshield pillar on the drivers side door.

Re: Diesel's 56 Chey Panel Van

I'm in Toronto this weekend, but as soon as I'm back, I'm gonna go visit the truck and check to see if I can find the VIN # and write it down so I can cross check it with the ownership when it shows up.

Re: Diesel's 56 Chey Panel Van

Today was monumental for me too LOL
I got to see the real ownership for this truck and it looks good to me.
The numbers on the ownership jive with the vin # on the truck.
So I payed for it... It now mine

BUT

Theres always a big but... The ownership says it's a 1957 GMC ?????
To me the only thing GMC about it is the hood

Is it possible, over the years that the ownership got changed from Chevy to GMC ??

Should I even be concerned??

What's the dash look like? Chevys have the triangle shape speedo and GMC have more of a cube shape.

Yeah !! I know... This is why I questioned the ownership...
The only thing GMC about the truck is the hood.

I'm gonna try and attempt to get it changed back to Chevrolet

Forgot you had an inside shot, guess I jumped the gun.

That's strange. Might check on vin# between the chevy and gmc models.

Re: Diesel's 56 Chey Panel Van

I just bought a 55 GMC package delivery and I didn't get a title with it. I am hoping that I can get a title through one of those title companys. I wish that your truck had the GMC front trim,,I would be interested in buying it(grille, bumper, turn signals and trim). I have all the stuff to change mine to Chevy,,,and it would look better but mine is all GMC.and I think that it would be different if I kept it that way.
I am interested in what you paid for it if you don't mind. Always curious about what things are going for.
I will be interested in seeing what you do with yours.I enjoy seeing the pictures,,keep them coming. Thanks -Keith
