spacing between leafs
I just found out the space between springs (leafs) side to side is different on 4 wheel and 2 wheel drives. Why is that? I thought I had a direct bolt in but I will have to move the pads on the rear end.

why would the spacing be different on a 4 wheel drive?

the spacing between springs from side to side is 2" closer on the 4 wheel drive. I will have to move the pads on the rear end. I was very surprised to find this out.

Though I can't confirm the validity of this, I was told that the spacing was wider on 2wd trucks to better stabilize top-heavy loads like camper shells. Since the optional leaf springs were popular on "camper specials" and most camper-ready trucks were 2wd, this makes some sense.

the longhorns also have the narrower spacing(40" c to c ) if I remember. The shape of the frame rails dictate the spacing(longhorn & 4wd = straight rails), & the other leaf trucks(pickups) have the bowed rails(same as a coil setup)......crazyL
