From the rag joint to the large washer on the bottom of the column, I have 17" on my 69.......you need to add 2" for stock, as mine has been collapsed to slide my column down 2". crazyL

What's involved in collapsing the shaft? I would like some more room since I'm larger than average.

The shaft is slipped together, & injected with (nylon?). I drilled the spots , & knocked it apart in the vise, did a little clean up to remove what rust was inside, & slipped it back together. After the column was located, I installed the shaft, & drilled & pinned it in 1 spot......you may not want a very big pin, as the collapseable design is for your safety(i used a hollow roll pin). The column itself has a hole that locates on a tang at the top, & the clamp around the bottom. You can remove the column, & redrill the hole, or slide it down, &snug it up(the later was my choice), but be carefull not to get the brake peddle in a bind(you will see what I am refering to if you try this). im not sure how you will be set on the nuetral safety switch, as mine is on the B&M floor shifter. Good luck....crazyL

Thanks, crazyl. The neutral switch is not a problem since I'm running a 3-speed manual on the floor.

No trouble! You can probably squeeze a little more than the 2", but for myself @ 5'9", i just needed a little more room. i also have a shorter 1" adaptor on a flat dish Grant wheel that gave a little more space.....the Jazz plastic buckets are not adjustable. Good luck....crazyL
