72 blazer complete, driver, but rusty

I recently purchased a 72 blazer. Intended to fix the rust and make a fun family cruiser out of it....but...as I've looked at it more I've decided its' too rusty for me and I don't want to spend the time patching it or swapping tubs...plus, I was going to convert it to 2wd which was going to be time consuming as well...

I know its' got value because of its' parts and that's why I bought it...but I'd prefer to sell complete instead of parting it out....

It's got several things going for it.
  • 350/350 combo runs well- and starts right up after sitting two days in the cold- no smoke, runs strong.
  • Complete exhaust from headers to back-(great sound)
  • 4wd works and front hubs lock
  • complete double wall top with good glass, hatch complete with good handle and all hardware (needs patching in corner and at handle inside)
  • Factory bucket seats with all hardware (old recover in black) and clean console....great foam and all working hardware...not rusty frames. (figure 750-850 value right here)
  • Factory 72 only extreme bend tow hooks (already sold)
  • Rear panel upper chrome trim, stands, and back retainers are there (probably a couple hundred if parted)
  • Rear bench is VERY nice original blue with scrollwork, great foam, great seatbelts, and all brackets. (figure 250-300 value)
  • Power steering (works well)
  • Power brakes (work well)
  • Spid is there and easy to read
  • Frame is clean...peeling paint but solid
  • Windshield frame looks very good (top not removed yet but don't see any rust on inside)
  • Glass is all clear (windshield, side windows, top, hatch)
  • Front clip is surprisingly clean-small spot on inner fender on pass side but otherwise looks very good (fenders, hood, rad support, inners)
  • Firewall only has one tiny spot of rust (passenger above heater box as usual)
  • swing out spare tire carrier
  • clean VA title

The bad:
  • No gate at all-PO removed it was so rusty
  • Basically no back floor left (PO cut it out and bolted plywood down)
  • No rear wheel tubs and inner bedsides are rough around wheels
  • Back mounts for tub are basically gone
  • Bondo all over the back
  • Rocker boxes under truck are MIA- PO cut out their remains- there's a steel square bar welded behind the rear seats and connected to the raised area of the floor to keep the truck solid so the doors shut and fit surprisingly well

As I made the lists I am guessin the truck will part out for more than its' worth complete...but hate to take a running/driving truck off the streets and tear it apart...especially with how rare blazers are getting...


Any guesses in value? Convince me not to part it...

I've seen some in that condition for $1500-$3000 on the high end. Probably would used used as a hunting rig or plow vehicle at the end of the day. It doesn't sound like it is worth restoring to me. Would basically need an entire new body.

I agree....would be a good candidate for a tub swap.

Looking like I will part it out...but I'm going to list it a few places first to try to sell complete. Easier for me and someone else can either make money parting it or can build it with a new tub starting with good parts...
  • 750-850 for the seats/console easily
  • 250-300 for the rear seat
  • 250-300 for the top and hatch/parts
  • 100-150 for the rear panel retainer pieces
  • 150 for the core support
  • 50 for the battery tray
  • 100 for the inner fenders
  • 150-200 for the rear bumper with brackets and splash shield (more if I separate all three)
  • 100-150 for the front bumper with brackets and guard
  • 150-200 for the swing out tire carrier
  • 150-200 for the windshield frame
  • 500-1000 for the engine/transmission easily
  • 500-1000 for the frame/axles/running gear depending how I part it.
  • 100-150 for all the wiring
  • 100-150 for the windshield and side glass
  • 100-200 for the doors (more if I piece out the guts)
  • 100-150 for the driver's side fender
  • 50-100 for the grille (for the inner and bowtie)
  • 100-200 for the wheels/tires
  • 50-100 for the power brake booster
  • 100-150 for the power steering setup
so that's 3800-5850 parted out...
