Seat cover reusable? - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I've finally ordered new bench seat bottom foam for a great price from member (pickmup). I'd like to keep the original Highlander seat cover, but it has a couple issues: some dry rot on the seat back cloth and a couple of small tears on the driver's side vinyl (see pics).

What are the prospects of getting this cover over the new foam without making the problems worse or causing a total blowout. Since I'm not replacing the seat back foam, I think that part should be ok (they aren't connected are they?), but I'm worried about the splits in the vinyl.

Also, does anyone have advice about repairing either of these bad spots?

I COULD SEE THAT TOTALY NOT WORKING BUD...but if your lik eme i would throw some patches on th einside a try it anyway!!

Yeah, I'm not too optimistic, but I really want to keep the plaid and white. I actually bought a dark green vinyl & houndstooth cover to replace it, but then the plaid grew on me (and the wife). If we have go with the new one, I'll have to do the door panels and visors in black to match, so I'm definitely going to try some kind of fix.

You could use that SMS link people post on here every once in a while and see if they have any of the highlander green plaid left.

The vinyl should be easy to match from any interior fabric place.

Then find an interior guy in town. Philly is big enough to find somebody local. All they really need is the original cover for a pattern. Then with the correct material they can whip up a new seat cover.

If you repair what you got it will just rip somewhere else. Plastic doesn't last forever and 39 years on that seat is a long time.

Try your local dealership. They usually have an interior repair specialist that they use to fix up used cars. I've seen them perform some magic. They will be able to tell you whether or not you are wasting your time.
