i finally got my truck started today now i am happier than a 7 peckered puppy, but i dont have a driveshaft in the truck and while the trans is in neutral the yoke spins, the guy that came and helped me with it is a retired mechanic and told me that it is just freespinning and that it would not do that when i got the driveshaft put in that it would no longer do that, is he right or is this something i need to fix

Sounds right to me.

think of it like a backhoe when it is digging and up on stabilizers ever see the rear wheels turning??

Yup, the 'ole guy is right. Some times some cars will do that too when on jackstands...a tire will move while in neutral.

when the trans is in nuetral it lets both the engine and drive shaft spin freely.it should do that if it s in neutral.i have to put my truck into neutral and let it slowly roll back to get on the "flat" spot in my driveway to check the fluids.when the drive shaft is in place you wont be able to turn it unless the tires are of the ground.i hope you can understand this!!

should it stop when i press the clutch pedal?
i am asking all of these because this is the first time i have had to work with a manual transmission or with a transmission at all

nope,when you push in the clutch it basicly disconnects the motor from the trans shaft,thats why if your on a hill and you push the clutch or have it in nuetral it will roll back.
