Question Pic/info request...Power Steering lines for BB 72

I have no idea what I've done with my old power steering lines and need to replace them, but the off the shelf ones that come from the parts store for a big block don't fit because of the inner fender. In the pictures below, you can see how the hard line coming out of the steering gear has to have a 90* in it get under the fender, and on top of the frame there is a double clip there to hold the hard line to the frame. The engine in the truck is a 454 LS6 from a 70 Chevelle, but I figure the front drive accessories are in the same location as the big block that would have come from the factory in this truck (driver side lower). The problem I am having is more on the truck end, not the engine end of things. If anyone can snap a picture of how their lines look with a big block, both from outside and inside, like the ones below, that would be awesome. Even better, if someone can tell me which application to have the parts store guy look up to get me the right lines, that would be fantastic!

Re: Pic/info request...Power Steering lines for BB 72

The correct high pressure hose for our BBC trucks is not available. Board vendor PICKMUP had some made up a while back and was selling them. Might want to PM him and see if he still has some.

As far as the reservoir hose, I got mine at a marine store. Do NOT use heater hose for this...the P/S fluid will break down the rubber and it will "weep"

Re: Pic/info request...Power Steering lines for BB 72

The ones on LMC look like they are correct, and they are also listed as 70-72 BB. Any ideas of those are the right ones?

http://www.lmctruck.com/icatalog/cb/full.aspx?Page=128

It looks like the hard line part that attaches to the gear are bent correctly. I just wish I could find my old ones so I could have the rubber replaced and be done with it.

Thanks for the heads up on the heater hose, that is what I intended on using. Was the hose you picked up from the marine place just bulk hose off of a roll or was it for something else specific?

Ever went to a hydraulic shop and see about having some made? The NAPA in the next town over makes them right in their own shop.

My mechanic makes hoses, but to get the bends just right I'd have to take the truck to him. I may end up having to do that, but I'd a whole lot rather find them off the shelf. It will also be a lot cheaper that way instead of having them custom done according to him.

Anyone have any hands on experience with that LMC hose? What about it isn't right, any idea?

Re: Pic/info request...Power Steering lines for BB 72

I got my reservoir hose from a Chevelle parts supplier...can't remember who...but it was pricey....exact same as the trucks though...don't know if the other hoses are the same as Chevelle big blocks though...

All of the parts house and parts venders except pickemup sell the equalivant to a sb pressure hose. If you want the correct one you will need to expect to pay. As far as I know frank is the only game in town and his parts are very high quality. The "feeder line is available through gates but you will have to find a parts guy willing to work- item is located in the rear of gates book, or you could get it from chevelle parts suppliers as the early chevelles used the same setup as trucks.

frank is Pickmup. i am sure the lmc hose will work, but as stated it is not the original style, as they are no longer produced.

I gotcha, I thought you meant that it just plain wouldn't work. As long as I can get it out of the gear and under that inner fender, I should be good to go. This isn't a restoration or anything, so as long as I have something functional, I'm ok with it not being original. Thanks for the info and I'm looking forward to hearing back from Frank, too.

I have an SBC hose on my BBC power steering also ....it IS a tight fit under the inner fender, but it will work.

Man I tried to come up with a way to make the one that I have now (I guess it's for a SB, although I bought it as a LB hose) to work, but I couldn't get it to fit at all.
