Task Force XJ6 IFS?

I've seen quite a few posts about it being done, but I haven't found any builds showing the process on a task force pickup. I've found a lot on f**d pickups and AD's, but no TF. Looks like guys on HAMB and ozrodders put them in a lot of different applications. I've only seen one pic of an install in a TF and it wasn't in a build. It showed a small notch at the top of the frame for the upper arm, but I couldn't tell if they had bolted or welded in the crossmember. I think I saw Kabwe asking the same question on another forum about ten years ago, so I hope he chimes in with anything he may have seen.

Thanks for any help. I'm looking to get this thing rolling as cheap and easily as possible. I found an '82 xj6 with a rebuilt 350 for cheap and would like to go buy it next week if the responses don't make the ifs swap in sound to hard.

This is a 57 frame. I talked with the guy who installed it but he wouldn't share any details being that he owns a shop installing jag ifs. I have had one sitting in my garage for awhile but kids and work eat up all my shop time I have seen them installed two ways on these trucks, small notch on the top (clearing the upper rear control arm) or big notch on the bottom thus increasing the drop and clearing control arm both. The only difference with the thread about the 64 (?) F100 would be the task force frame is slightly taller. The frames are the same width. Obviously there are issues putting one in a 55-59 chevy as opposed to a 55.1 and older chevy and 56 and older ford mainly due to frame rail width and the drop being limited by the flat frame of the 55-59 chevys whereas others have some rise at the front axle area. I have talked with taylor at michigan metal works who custom fabs a lot of drop spindles that have no aftermarket support and he believes he can machine a drop spindle for the jag but, i fear as with most drop spindles it would increase the track width.
I am almost to the point of taking mine to a friend who has installed (welded) a jag front end in his sons truck due to my lack of time.

That was the pic I was talking about. I've seen it posted somewhere else. I wish it had a few more with it. Can't blame the guy for not wanting to give out all his secrets.
I got a lead from another member on here to a UK forum where they do a lot of jag ifs swaps. It's a little hard to navigate but if I find any build threads that demonstrate how to do it I'll put the link in here.

I've also found one in that secret hamb board but he hasn't mounted it up yet.

If anyone else has any more info or links, I could sure use them. I'm very intrigued by this swap and I'm not sure why? I assume that if it's as easy as I imagine, it would be done a whole lot more often here in the U.S.

Up to 86' on the xjs & xj6. one of the two go to 87' but i can't remember for sure. They all are the same for the most part with different spring rates for 6cyl & 12 cyl cars.
The one on the CL add is the right one. I dont know the specific year of mine, but its not to difficult to find part no#s. The next generation are totally different so its easy to tell them apart. That one looks like its all there. If its not screwed up from being welded to the frame it would be worth picking up. I'm in summit view off reata rd. so if you want to come by and take measurements of the one I have shoot me a pm. A friend of mine just put one in his sons 54 and they have it running now. He is in kennewick also. If you want to look at it I may try to get to his house this weekend or next.

At second glance ( im on my phone) it's missing the springs and the plates that attach to the bottom control arms.

Cool, thanks. Not a project for me in the near future, but possibly down the road at some time. I gotta at least see how mine turns out first.
You don't happen to know who own the little shop on 10th next to the church by Col. Center Blvd? He's got a few nice projects out front.

I'd love some more pics of that front clip if you have any handy. Curious if you cut the front mounts off since you welded it in. Looks good!

I drove down and bought that one yesterday. He had a friend (Possibly now former) install it in his square body Dodge pickup and it looked like such a mess that he cut the front of the frame off and started over.

I ended up getting it for 50 bucks and he found the spring plates but they have been modified for bags so I won't be able to use them.

I drove my beater 92 Geo Prizm GSI down and took my Sawzall and cut the front part of the Dodge frame off and we loaded it in the Geo (the back seat lays down. It woudn't be bad but the guy who installed (?) it for him didn't bother to clean the grease off the crossmember and suspension first.
After I got home with it and got out my cutting torch it looks like this:





The "builder" hacked up the piece that the spring sets around but left enough to hold the springs. I think they cut the upper bump stops out.




Lower spring mount plates modified for bags and useless to me.




I did find a link this morning that is a saver for anyone installing an XJ front or rear suspension. This is a Jag Parts catalog with factory parts numbers.

Pages 50, 51 and 53 have the front suspension, steering and front brakes while pages 47,48 and 49 cover the rear axle and suspension.

Plus the 44 I spent on Ebay for new bottom spring plates that will hold springs and now I need springs. shocks and a sway bar.
I need to sell the plates that were modified for bags. They will probably go on Ebay after the others get delivered.

One thing for sure if anyone talks about putting them on a Dodge after about 1960 they don't work on them.

Saturday I'll soak it down with Oil Eater and haul it to the car wash for a clean up and then get out the grinder and descab it.

Not sure on the rear. 300 bucks in Seattle to get one but the spending money will be pretty short until October or so. I've got a trip to Kansas coming u p in July and am spending time on my Sailboat in the San Juans and Anacortes in August.

I'd like to get the front end on the frame and set the front half of the cab on the frame and start working on the stretch cab pretty soon though. I've got to make a serious change in my shop situation before I go too far as right now I am working out in the driveway.

The workmanship on the plates looks ok, the builder wasn't much of a designer on the crossmember install but he could weld great.




Those are photos of one of them if you think they will work pm me. My new to me ones came via the mail today in a priority mail box so I'm set there and a set of springs would go a long way towards getting the front end up on wheels.

We folded the seat down and got it all inside. Dang car rode better than it ever has. I spent more on gas going to get it even at 30 mpg than I paid for it. Total of 400 miles between 03:45 when I pulled out the driveway to 14:30 when I pulled back in.

Add me to the list...this is my first post, I landed here from Hotrodders, someone recommended I come here.

I have a 1957 Chevy, 3100 I believe...was about to sell the darn thing about a week ago and the deal fell through. I then spoke to my 12 year old son and we're going to give this thing a shot.

How much should I expect to pay for the XJ6 suspension...and does anyone have any good leads on where to grab one?

In the Midwest I've seen them for $100 to $300 for the front crossmember. I paid $500 for my entire jag that had a 350 swap in it.

I've seen a couple of jags listed on craigslist that should work, one was $900 and it was running...the other was $1100. I just don't have the funds right now unfortunately.

Does anyone have experience with dropping the jag rear into one of these trucks?
