Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

That's a lot of work. I'm feeling tired and sore from standing around on a concrete floor at the swap meet, and loading up that hood. Tired might have something to do with having sleep issues lately.

Yes

Those Swap meets will wear an old man down

I only do one a year as far as set up goes.

I probably walk 50 miles looking to see what is there before the public arrives

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

I drove through Burger King today and got 2 "Classic Melts. I had been running errands all morning and I was starving. I just wanted something fast because I wanted to go home and eat quick.

So I order them with extra 1000 Island dressing... They're out of 1000 Island.
Fine... I have Bobs at home Ill just slap some on.

I get to the window and ask for Ketchup... They're out of Ketchup too.

How does Burger King run out of Ketchup? They're right next to Vons and I was just there. Vons had plenty of Ketchup and 1000 Island. So I say whatever, I've got Ketchup at home too.

I get home and the "Melts' aren't melted at all. The bread isn't even grilled. It looked like it just came out of the package.

So I got dry burgers with cold cheese. Not like the pretty picture in the window.

So much for a fast bite. I waited in the drive thru for 10 minutes and I was the only car there and had to fire up my grille and "fix ' the burgers when I got home.

Oh man. That sounds like some of my recent experiences with fast food here. A while back I stopped at a Sonic for a fast burger. I asked for a regular cheeseburger with mustard and ketchup only. When delivered I drove off as I was short on time. When I opened it and took a bite I found a bun, mustard and ketchup. No cheese or MEAT! I kid you not.
Just a day ago I stopped at Wendy's and ordered a baked potato and burger. When he handed me my order it felt lite so I peeked in and there was a
burger, no potato. I asked where's my tater. The girl said she didn't hear me ask for one. I said that's the very first thing I asked for. "oh, sorry" as she quickly turned away. The guy quickly got me fixed up but man. They weren't rushed as I was the only one at the driveup. It's the same old same old now days. Ask for corndogs and get just that, you have to ask for mustard and napkins.

I don't eat at drive-thru burger p[laces, except maybe when traveling and time is tight. If I was going to take a drive-thru burger home before eating, I'd drive on by, get home sooner, and slap a delicious sandwich together real quick. My kitchen stays fully stocked with delicious foods. I'm never out of condiments. My 92 year old mom says she's never seen anyone keep so many condiments. I told her that's because I don't know how to cook and I use condiments to make food edible

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

(2) recent experiences in the past week had me saying "What the Hell?"

Went to a Red Robin Friday for The Queen and I to split one of their thick juicy bacon cheeseburgers and endless steak fries. I understood the long wait for grub as the place was packed and understaffed...like most food joints these days.

The burger wasn't thick, or juicy. But, the steak fries held up to standards.

Went to a Chiloso earlier last week after our oldest Grandson's high school soccer game. I always get a burrito bowl. If you're not familiar, you move down the line selecting the ingredients you want. The 1st item is the meat. I picked taco meat. The server put such a small amount of meat in the bowl I had him ad more and it still wasn't as much as they always did before. That's comparing two locations. To top it off, The Queen really likes their Chicken Tortilla soup...sub-par this go round.

We don't have a nearby Burger King but, I found myself at one a couple of weeks ago. Its been a couple of years, I think. I was disappointed to find the Whopper seems to have lost its Whop. Nothing special and looked to be smaller than I remembered.

Wendy's prices are WAY up but, the items don't seem to have changed much. So, locally, I would have to say for fast food burgers...Our Texas based What a Burger is still the best.

I seldom go thru the drive thru. Even if I am taking food to the house or office. It has been my experience that your chance of getting a correct order greatly improves when ordering inside. The exception is Chick Fil-A. Their orders and service is always top shelf.

Sounds like you know how to cook to me. Quality ingredients and spice are all it takes. When I was a kid we had salt and pepper. That was it. No wonder my moms food was so bland and not so good.

Fast food is for what it is. Good in a pinch. Or maybe not...

19 qts of oil, 4 air filters, 2 spark plugs, and one cut finger later..done! Next weekend service the bike. I really do enjoy servicing our rolling stock. Looking forward to a "greaseless" spring.

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

Replaced a carb and all filters and oil on a Kohler engines zero turn....

Found a persistent leak on one of my Toro Z masters and replaced the hydraulic feed hose.

Drained gas from our snow blower and ran it dry until next season....(yep, I have a snow blower in NC!)

Changed oil and filterson my John Deere LA145....over 1000 hours on the original engine!

Pulled the carb from a Toro Self propelled 22" mower..I found it out front of a place with a sign saying Free...carb was all gummed up, a bath in acetone then carb cleaner and reassemble...fires right up now....

Now I am sitting on my a$$ watching NASCAR with a beer....

Its a hard life aint it?

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

After the big rains Friday night, I had loaded up some stuff in the truck to sell at the Beacon dragway spring swap meet. Lots of leftover parts and junk that I will never use. Some things I didn't remember having. Got there early with a fair turnout and sold everything by 10 am except for 3 items. The wind was whipping and it was a cool wind. Glad to get home. Worked on the camaro console a little bit. Got it looking ok.

Swap meet, ey? I mentioned earlier I did the same here. We had rain Thursday through Saturday. But I was inside. I did pretty good selling and I got a couple cool things, too. Your console picture reminded me I wanted to show this knee knocker VDO tach I got for my '67 project. I never saw a tach with a cup that looked like this. The ribbed design will go with the wing vent latches and interior mirror ('66 style).

Went over to the rental house and verified that the door handles are still the same. Yesterday when I went over, the front door handle was way loose; the screws were several turns out. I can't make any sense of that, beyond paranoia that someone is going to try and change the locks and squat. Escrow is supposed to close in a couple of weeks. This is nerve-wracking. I have some friends that I may have to hire to have a party in that house if squatters appear. We can make it REAL uncomfortable for some squatters...

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

I haven't been to Burger King in years. I used to pickup breakfast croisants for the guys at work on Saturdays, I always went inside to order. The last time I walked up to the counter and the little gal standing there clocked out and went on break and the two guys at the soda machine just stood there talking and never offered to take my order after an few minutes I got mad and walked out . The other night I ordered Dominos chicken alfredo for my wife and she ended up with a marinara and cheese dipping sauce [ no chicken or pasta at all ] she says "WELL , we won't be ordering from them any time soon". Ok by me. I'll go pickup our food from the local Italian Restaurant next time.

I don't think it's paranoia Steven. Those screws didn't just loosen themselves.
Can you have someone you trust "camp out' there until escrow closes. I'm getting ready to stay at my new place because it's empty and someone has been coming around. So I'll be squatting in my own place. Just internet, a sofa and a fridge everything else has been torn out. I'll just eat at the Mexican restaurant down the block. Then I'll really be squatting in more ways than one.

Why is your escrow taking so long? Mine closed in a couple weeks from start to finish. I hate escrow. They are the reason that it's nerve wracking.

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

You guys remind me of a Burger King story of mine I probably shouldn't share. I did a very cocky thing one night many years ago, like before I bought this house in '87. I used to have snow plowing contracts down in the MD suburbs, near Washington DC. We'd go down prior to the snow starting and then spend many hours clearing a handful of properties, back and forth from one to the others strung out along the northern end. It can be a long long day and staring carefully at the tip of the plow makes it very tiring.

On my weary way home I pull into a Burger King as I was hungry enough to eat about anything put in front of me. It was a right turn onto a road off the hiway, left into a shopping center, and another left where Burger King was tucked into the corner. Lights were on and people moving around inside. I walk up to the counter and see the various burgers on the slotted trays ready to serve. The man comes, what I thought was to take my order, and says "Sorry we are closed". What??? "But you have burgers ready to eat right there. "Can't you sell me one? I've been in my truck plowing snow for 12 hours straight and I really need something to eat. I'm starving". Nope, already closed the register out. What??? "But you're just going to throw those out. Here's a $10 bill. Give me a burger and stick the 10 in your pocket". Sorry sir, we are closed. You'll have to leave. Oh, I left alright. I went out, got in my truck, gathered up some snow, and pushed it up over the curb and against the doors, backed up, drove up the bank to the hiway, and hauled butt on up the road! "Have fun shoveling you dink!"

That is funny.
I bet they remembered to lock the door at closing time after that.

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

That's a funny story and that guy deserved it. He was probably going to take them for himself but you'd think the 10 bucks would have swayed him.

It's only 5 a.m. here so I haven't done much. Only got my little Chihuahua stoned. He's going to the vet today to get his nails trimmed and they gave us some doggie downers so he won't attack them. He's a mean little dog and growls at everything especially my big dog. But he's not growling at anything now. He's higher than a kite. Maybe he won't need the Hannibal Lecter mask this time.

Yeah, $10 for a Whopper, no fries or a drink, in the mid-80s was seriously generous. They would have been under $2 back then. You couldn't buy a $10 burger at the fanciest restaurant back then. Way to many for the whole crew to eat. If I were him I would have refused the money and just given him one knowing he had been out providing the service of clearing snow that everyone likes to see done like yesterday. These days he would have gotten a carefully worded statement putting him where he belongs. No need to act out like I did when young. With age comes wisdom... then it's where'd it all go??

I'm picturing just how that went with your Chihuahua

Can you have someone you trust "camp out' there until escrow closes. I'm getting ready to stay at my new place because it's empty and someone has been coming around. So I'll be squatting in my own place. Just internet, a sofa and a fridge everything else has been torn out. I'll just eat at the Mexican restaurant down the block. Then I'll really be squatting in more ways than one.

Why is your escrow taking so long? Mine closed in a couple weeks from start to finish. I hate escrow. They are the reason that it's nerve wracking.
This is the third round of "buyers". This gal seems serious, but the first prospects were pretty much crooked, trying to pull things. She's at least paying for an inspector. There's paperwork that must be signed by this Wednesday or it'll fall through. I'm tempted to get out my camping gear and occupy the place myself.

Third round? Yuck. I went 3 rounds when I sold my place in Claremont. I think the "buyers' were still looking and just wanted to lock in my place in case they didn't find another. They'd write a check but it was refundable so they had nothing to lose. Just a waste of my time and patience.

When we sold our house in San Dimas my wife had inherited it. Escrow wanted the death certificate of her stepfather. And a copy of the will.(sigh)
The guy has been dead for 10 years. She’s owned it for 10 years. Paid the taxes for 10 years. It’s in her name. Are you kidding me?

Nope. They need the paperwork or the deal falls through. What a bunch of
She always makes fun of me for using my old filing cabinet when I can just file things on the computer. She calls me a dinosaur and things like that. But when she looked for the documents. Guess what? They weren’t there. Everything else was but not them.

So. This old dinosaur went to his outdated obsolete dusty file cabinet and mercy me what did I find. That’s right. Somebody with their old antiquated ways just saved the day.

That’s why I hate escrow. When she sent the documents they said that they didn’t need them after all.
Thank you sir may I have another.

Let me know if you camp out. I'll bring the marshmallows and weenies... and a couple shotguns. We can tell scary stories.
