1969 c10 tranny swap
I'm looking for help with a transmission swap in my 69 c10. It has the 3 speed and I'm wanting to put an automatic in it. A list of everything I will need to make this as easy as possible would be awesome. Thanks.

WELCOME!!!! For a start,you will need a tranny and crossmember,a steering column and linkage for an auto,a trans cooler,the correct yoke for the tranny if different,and the correct speedo gears for tranny,gearing and tires.You'll also need a flexplate instead of the flywheel.You will need to remove the crossmember at the bellhousing,so you will need a grinder,drill or chisel.It's not just a simple tranny r&r.You may also have to have the driveshaft shortened.
Someone else may be along to add to the list I've given or to clarify.

You could also do a floor shift instead of steering column swap if you'd like. The big pain is the crossmembers....
It may be a bit more difficult of a swap but a built 200 4R would be great in it. You'll like the 4 speed auto better than a 3. In which case you'll need linkage for the TV cable too. Good Luck and Welcome to the board.

I am well along in a similar swap. Out with the 3 on the tree and in with a TH350. At the same time an engine rebuild and a lot of detail work under the hood. Its been a lot of work as I am trying also to make everything look original and new.

I would agree with the 200r4 or a 700r4.You'll appreciate the added OD and there's no sense in doing it over.

The 3 speed is spoken for already.. I have read that if I use a short tail turbo 350 then I can use the same drive shaft as the 3 speed with no modification.. Is this true?

if the short shaft T350 will work, the 200 4R will work with a yoke change. The 2 are almost the same length.

You'll also need to swap the starter or get a different nosecone to mount the starter to the block instead of the bell housing.

I don't know if the th350 will work.. I just read that somewhere. I guess I'll find out. And yes I'm using a floor shifter.

Just wanted to confirm that the turbo 350 will work with the 3 speed drive shaft with no modification. It was pretty much a direct bolt in after removing the 3 speed cross member.

i would figure out what the rear end ratio is b4 selecting a transmission//// the overdrive trannies suggested live best with 373 or 410 gears/// turbo 350 with a 305 type gear ratio
