How can I go lower?

I bought an 83 that's already been lowered with springs in the front and shackles and hangers in the rear. It sits with a rake right now. I wanna buy spindles for the front, and take out a leaf in the rear. I'm afraid the back will still be too high though. Does anybody have this same kind of set up? I would prefer to flip the rear end but I know with the shackles an hangers plus the flip, it'll be way too low. Also the drivers rear sits a little lower than the passenger side. I've noticed that on other ones too. What's up with that?

Re: How can I go lower?

Welcome to the forum....

I suggest you take the shackle and hanger off and go with a flip kit. If you need more you can leave the shackle.

It's not uncommon for these trucks to be uneven, but there might be other issues.

Take a look at your frame, leaf springs, etc to see if there are any visible problems.

I would bet , (after becoming a supporting member), you could post a want to buy ad and you will find lots of stock shackles and hangers available for sale. Definately become a supporting member first though. We cant post for sale or want to buy ads until we have become a site supporter. Welcome to the greatest forum on the net.

Re: How can I go lower?

The drivers side rear sitting lower may not just be a problem for that area.... it could be your passenger side front sitting higher.... you'll just have to trouble shoot and measure various points that you can adjust. I'd check to make sure your front springs are seated properly too.

As for lowering the rear... if you want to go low, do the flip kit, a shackle and a c-notch. Taking a leaf out only reduces your weight capacity and will cause the truck to bottom out easier.

If your truck is sitting uneven in the cab you might check your cab mounts... especially if the driver side is sitting lower. Mine is an 83 and it sagged on the driver side. I just added some spacers until I buy all new mounts.

Re: How can I go lower?

welcome your going to find alot of helpful advice here, and you will also see alot of people going thru your same problem 9 out of 10 people that use the shackle/hanger drop in the rear ALWAYS want more. Im one of them too, Just get the flip and put the stock hanger back on, removing a leaf isn't enough and they have already talked me out of taking anymore out.
but when you get a chance i always enjoy seeing other peoples trucks where are the pics?

Re: How can I go lower?

Nice looking truck! I have the same front end for my crew cab.

I agree with the rallies... perhaps black. I would swap out the rear bumper for a smooth one.

Truck looks good like it is. The wheels may be a bit dated, but they still look better than black rallies. To dark a wheel will kill the look.
