Sweet truck man! Good lookin piece to start with. I LOVE your '54. I've always wanted one and yours is (was) perfect. You going to keep this truck stock except for the PB suspension?

Re: 1963 C10 SWB Big Window Build

Spent some time getting the frame stripped clean of years of grime and oil leaks. Used engine brite, super clean, wire brush, putty knife and finished it with a wire brush wheel on my 4 1/2" grinder. I'm going to wipe it down with acetone and prime and paint it today.

Re: 1963 C10 SWB Big Window Build

Well i got the frame painted and then the UPS guy stopped with my Dropmembers V3.2 front with arms and sway bar and the new Trailing Arm kit for the rear. I still have some more stuff on the way, hood hinges, bags, ect.. but this will keep me busy. Nate is a great guy to deal with, answers questions quick and puts out quality parts.

Re: 1963 C10 SWB Big Window Build

I used a Rustoleum pro gray primer and a flat black enamel after hours of cleaning and wire brushing also a wire wheel on my grinder then cleaned it with wax & grease remover.

Hey Drtyrat, I just found this thread and want to ask a couple questions about your painting. You said,

"Spent some time getting the frame stripped clean of years of grime and oil leaks. Used engine brite, super clean, wire brush, putty knife and finished it with a wire brush wheel on my 4 1/2" grinder. I'm going to wipe it down with acetone and prime and paint it today."

I assume you followed the same process/same paint - Rustoleum Pro in a silver color?

But if the parts were new from PB did you have to remove some kind of oil or preservative from them? Did they have light surface rust? If so, how much did you worry about that - did you get it ALL off, or just most of it then proceed with the paint prep process you describe?

Re: 1963 C10 SWB Big Window Build

The PB parts came clean & bare from Porterbuilt, and all i did is scuff them up with some 320 grit sand paper and a red scotch brite pad. Then clean, prime & paint.

I'm REALLY impressed with the quality of your work, it's SO clean and I'm most impressed with the finish quality you get out of rattle cans. The black looks to have a little sheen to it, sure you're using flat?

Sorry to digress on the overall build but your garage looks really clean and organized. When you're removing all the gunk using scrapers, chemicals and wire wheels how are you protecting the floor because it looks pretty clean. Or do you just let the crap fall and what are you using to clean it up afterward?

Thanks. Well the can says flat, i think its just the lighting. That Rustoleum Pro is a quality product. Plus i sand, prep & prime, makes a differance.

I layed down tarps under the truck while i cleaned the frame. I'm a little OCD when it comes to keeping my garage clean.
