Pick my Paint!
Okay, so not as literally as the title suggests, but I'm having some difficulty settling on a paint color/scheme for the dually.
I'm really leaning towards brown(s), but I'm open to any suggestions. I'm looking for something that appears factory. I'm not sold on or opposed to either solid or two-tone schemes. The truck is a '77 but I'm swapping on a front end from an '87 and keeping the stock grill that has the color-matched center bar. Obviously, the stock '77 trim will be going away. No major body mods other than a blazer tailgate band (no shaving, etc.). If anyone has any cool ideas or color suggestions, I'd be more than grateful. Here's the rig: It now has the later-model bed on it. |

Re: Pick my Paint!
I vote to keep it identical to the first pic. Original front end, paint scheme and trim, that thing looks sweet!

Re: Pick my Paint!
I'd go with a brown and tan with tan on the roof and below the side molding

Re: Pick my Paint!
I liked that one too. It looks very factory. There was a similar gold offered in '91 (probably more years than that) that would be factory appearing. I really liked it with black. There was a black/gold Blazer in the '91 dealer brocure that looked really good.

Re: Pick my Paint!
I was going to suggest justpballs rootbear brown and lexus or escalade pearl white. but keep with the factory paint scheme of these trucks where the rootbeer on the top 3rd then the middle pearl then rootbeer again below the body molding. or like this one on the first page of the longbed sticky page.

Re: Pick my Paint!
It might help if you posted a pic of a truck that has the trim or paint break that you plan to run. Right now I think everyone is still envisioning the way it looked with the 73-80 trim.

Re: Pick my Paint!
I was actually thinking of the 89-91 trim. The truck I had in mind was black (the rootbeer brown on pball's sub would look great too) with gold under the trim only. You wouldn't have to run the cab trim that way, to clean it up a bit. Shave the seam, and put on the later painted drip rails.

Re: Pick my Paint!
I think if your going two tone and not using the 73-80 trim ( )you need to break it high. Your better off if you avoid trying to break the paint on the fenders.

Re: Pick my Paint!
GM silver birch metallic with the 81-91 side molding.
Jet stream blue off the new Corvettes would be sweet. If the interior is blue and you plan to keep it, it could work out well. A couple of simple solid color ideas. I'm having a hard time envisioning a two tone break up on the rear fenders that I like.

Re: Pick my Paint!
The factory two tone for 81-88 that came with the tape stripe came up right to the dually fender, and the tape had a slight bump over the top of it. The dually fender was usually the same color as the lower part of the two tone.
How straight is your truck? That will have a bit of bearing on the color, too. If it is straight enough to be proud wearing black, darker colors will make it look even longer and lower. I like a lot of grey colors; I really like the Thunder Grey on the new CTS (it has a lot of flop in it, looks sharp). Also, what color will the interior be? That helps, too. Re: Pick my Paint!
I love the baby blue and white combo..but would flip the colors to a white roof, baby blue body with white in the middle. Tan and white looks good too!

Re: Pick my Paint!
I say 2-tone... I would suggest keeping the 73-80 front end and the trim for a 2-tone. Hugger orange and a white/creme is my favorite. I can't find any photos
But if your going for an new front end I like the blue on blue like the photo.

This is the wrong body, but the right combo.

Re: Pick my Paint!
wow i really like the blue and white with the 73-80 clip, but if you must change it that tan and white would look pretty good split at the body line with a rootbeer pin stripe splitting them.
