Hi, just wanted to show off the 66 I just bought Woo Hoo. I got it off a ranch not 10 minutes from my house. It has only one area of rot on a rear fender. Other than that it is just a little surface rust. It is pretty much unmolested except it has a 327/TH350 which didn't come in it. It also had a few nice new parts installed, gas tank,seat upholstery,radiator,brakes/master cylinder/brake booster,bed slats, and tires are all new. It's nice to have some parts that I know I won't have to refurbish/replace.

One thing I thought was kind of funny is the bed is completely eaten by termites. haha You don't hear someone say their truck has termites very often.

Well I'm going to tear out that wood and start cleaning up the frame for some POR 15. More to come.

Welcome to the forum. That's a very nice straight truck to start with, and having a few upgrades sure helps with the startup budget.

nice truck. it sure is nice finding a truck in Cali. i see some of our less unfortunate brothers on here with what they can find local. some of these trucks i would not even look at.but i guess it's what or where you want to live and spend.

Thanks everybody. I am really excited to start fixing her up. I'm just going to start cleaning the frame and everything mounted to it and coating it with POR 15 starting from the back moving forward. Replacing everything rubber etc.. along the way. It will be a couple weeks before I start. I have promised myself I will finish the restore of an old bike I have been working on before I start on the truck. Couple more weeks and the bike will be done than bring it on.

Yeah, it was crazy. I had been looking for a 64-66 stepside maybe for a couple weeks. I went by my dads house and mentioned it to him and he said "Oh yeah I know someone selling one". What are the chances of that.

Here's a interior pic. The one thing I have found that is no good so far is they cut out the dash to fit that stereo. That kinda sucks.

The engine seemed to run pretty good. 327 with fuelie heads, edlebrock manifold and carter 4bl carb. The PO gave me a HEI distributor and a alternator that he never got around to installing. It's gooing to take a lot of elbow grease to clean this all up though. There are some issues in here. One thing is the transmission kick down is not hooked up.

And finally what has had my focus for the last 6 months. A 73 BMW R75/5

It looks original, intact, and shows little wear. Often holes are worn below the pedals from regular use. It may seem a little silly, but a nice original floor mat usually means the truck has been very well cared for or only lightly used.

In the heat and dry of California, old trucks often have less rust issues, but the interiors are usually all dried up.
As far as that being the original floor mat, it could be. Although I bought one in the mid 80's that looked identical to my original.
Some previous owner between my selling my 65 and me getting it back replaced it with carpet scraps.

So, when I went to the DMV they told me the truck is no longer in the system and I will need a VIN verification from the CHP. OK, so I check out the VIN on the cab and all is good. I look at the VIN on the frame and there is some weird **** going on. It looks like to me that whoever was punching VIN's in frames that day at the plant screwed up punching my VIN, struck out the numbers they messed up on and punched in new ones above the messed up ones. Man, so now I have to show this to the CHP and convince them this isn't some BS where someone screwed with the numbers.

So you can see the frame was punched with 7100 when it was supposed to be 7099. One off. SO they struck out the 100 and punched 099 above it. That pretty much sucks. The VIN guy must have been drunk that day.

So, I started cutting out the bed rails. I made good progress on my bike project so I decided the truck needed some progress

I also, received the service manuals I ordered so I will be pouring over those. Thats it for now. It's begun.
