Lake pipes on a '67

Depending on the style of pipes, I think I could get into that. I think that corvet style pipes could look really sweet.

Washington state law states the exauhst must exit at the rear of the truck.

That law can probably be challenged since federal las says it must exit past the rear opening of the rearmose doors. That, and the fact that the first half of the 97 F-150 (97 was run for 18 months) has STOCK exhaust exiting in front of the passenger side rear wheel. Then there's the thousands of vettes and mustangs and A/C shelby cobras that had side pipes off the show room floor too.

I was thinking about real side pipes without the "Corvette Summer" heat shields. Somthing tucked up tight and turning out about 6" in front of the rear tires

Yep, you are probably right longhorn, you would not believe how many diesel pickups are running stacks around here.

Side pipes have always been an old hot rod/road corse type thing, and lake pipes were on lead sleds.

Not lake pipes...but I'm always looking for an excuse to share a pic! This is actually scanned from an old magazine. I think it holds up pretty well.

I wouldn't call it a poke.
I did find it amusing that some one from jersey asks about pipes and some one says Washington state law states the exauhst must exit at the rear of the truck... kinda has nothing to do with anything going on. Not so mucha poke, but a little sarcasm to point out the obviouse.
The rest of it was just fact. Federal laws says this, and the OEMs follow it, and the law makers in that state can't do anything about it. Just facts there.

Aside from the butterfly you gotta admit that it rocks! I don't remember the exact date of the mag I scanned it from but the truck wouldn't have been but a couple years old at that point.

I have thought on my truck to have "Lakes Plugs", i.e., the shorty pipes that dump right behind the front tires and are open if you uncap them.

"Back in the day" a friends' brother had a '57 Star Chief convertible, then a '60 Catalina hardtop. On both of them, he had welded on a simple 2-inch pipe onto the pipe from the manifold, with a screw-on pipe cap that he would unscrew and proceed to make a LOT of racket as he tore up the country roads we lived on and loved to drive on.

I think you are wrong there. If you read it again it should say that they have to exit behind the passenger compartment. Meaning behind the cab on a pickup and past the back end of something like a suburban. I've run pipes that exit in front of the rear tires for years on the 71 and never had an issue.

I did an online search of the state's rcw's and found restrictions on mufflers and cutouts but not where the exhaust dumps.

But didn't find the one on where pipes have to exit the vehicle.

Then again, we live in the Yakima Valley and things here seem to be up to local interpretation.

As far as side pipes go, I think they look rather silly and passe these days unless you have a Corvette that they are proper on. Then you had better be ready to loose a girlfriend when she burns her leg on the pipes.
