Question Was there ever a plastic model of a 69 Chevy tow truck made?

I'd love to find one of these. Was there ever such an animal made? Available today???

I'd like to do one to match my real wrecker just for kicks.

The only one I found was the one sold like Cooters from Dukes of Hazzard that fetches some bucks now a days but that one isn't what I'm after.

I am looking for one with a real wrecker rear body, not just in a pickup bed, Chevy not GMC.

Thanks,

Bob

Wasn't there a Billy Carter one from '76 or so?

Re: Was there ever a plastic model of a 69 Chevy tow truck made?

MPC made some kits at that time that were multi option. Good Luck and they are expensive. If you want it close then prepare to scratch bulid something. Probably have to take the '70 or '69 kit (or a promo) and build the bed. Wheels are just going to have to be kitbashed from something else. Cheapest way out would be to start with a '72 AMT Cheyenne kit if that is close enough.

Re: Was there ever a plastic model of a 69 Chevy tow truck made?

You would have to find a 69 fleetside(which could be built as a fire truck) and either a 67 or 68 fleetside(both were available to build as tow trucks).

Here... Buy this and play around.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Used...item19cad1e7cb

The bed sides were added glud to the kit bed in the desired configuration. They had fleets, steps, fire, wrecker, rampback, motorhome, ect. The hard part is either finding one or the bucks to pay for it.

Yeh, now that I think of it, I could use a 69 short stepside as well.

I'll have to consider making the wrecker part myself. It sounds do-able.

Maybe I better finish the real truck first though.

Thanks to all...

Re: Was there ever a plastic model of a 69 Chevy tow truck made?

The only shortbed Stepside is the AMT GMC Fenderside. You'd have to kit bash a '69 Fleetside kit for the Chevy parts and buy a resin-cast Chevy tailgate.

On the tow truck,MPC's '69 Fleetside kit comes with the same bed as a wrecker but has a fire truck version instead. Those wrecker booms are lame anyway,so you could build that. Especially with the Wreckmaster design I'd think you could mimmick the trussed tube booms fairly easily. There is a later square body snap-fit kit that comes with a realistic tow body/boom as well as real C/30 dual wheels.
First kit is the MPC '69 (upper left),then the AMT GMC SWB Fenderside (lower left),the second release of the same GMC SWB (lower right),and a built snap-fit wrecker. Resin casters make paintable Budd wheels if you don't like the fancy ones. I think I'd build the tow body for yours from plastic stock.

Well done Special K! Great collection of kits you have there. Can I have a picture of the cover art of the AMT 1969? The "EXTRA! modern camper" has me intrigued.

WOW, this is sounding expensive!

Your right on building the rear body myself, it's quite square and made with flat sheets of metal in real life, should be do-able in plastic too.

Maybe some of these or different versions will be re-made one day. I looked a long time for a 66 Impala and finally, they came out with a modern made one that didn't break the bank.

Well...it's like this. I checked and don't have a picture of the top. My work truck took a crap on me yesterday and is at my daughter's house 20 miles away right now. I forgot to grab my camera from the console. See what I'm gettin' at here? I'll get you a picture as soon as I get the gall darn camera. It's a green truck with matching fiberglass (looking) camper. Very sleek and custom looking.

They seem to bring out the '72 Fleetside every few years, but you'll need to find the grille separate, either used from a kit or resin cast reproduction. Another option is look for a built kit or "junkyard" as they call a mixture of parts. Often you find that stuff pretty cheap. That's your best bet since you're only using part of the kit,the '69s are all vintage money.and you are modding anyway so used parts can be reworked.

Anybody know if the motorcycle came with the stepside? I have the model that I bought awhile ago already built but no motorcycle??

Ow,my eyes! Notice the buddy buckets in a '69? I spent my whole life thinking buddy buckets came in through-72s and it's AMT's fault! Have I waited for the world to get ridiculous enough that I can sue them,or should I wait a few more years?

Here's a cool custom build combining that snap-fit bed and parts with a New Breed body style cab:

Re: Was there ever a plastic model of a 69 Chevy tow truck made?

I can't or the life of me remember what the front of mine looked like.

Re: Was there ever a plastic model of a 69 Chevy tow truck made?

I'm a big model builder. The old Chevy trucks in our years are usually pretty expensive for a nice clean kit. The 72 Fleetside LWB and the 72 stepside have been repopped several times and are fairly easy to find, the fleet more than the step (GMC). All others, good luck. I have been trying to get my hands on a nice 68 LWB, but they have been out of my price range. A quick look through ebay only lists this 69 Blazer and a set of instructions for a 69, the one with the fire truck option. (Not my auction)
