Dumb Question; But Humor Me

Is there any particular reason the steam tube discharge comes from the drivers side? Is it because the way the coolant flows through the engine it is easier to evacuate from the drivers side? or was it just a flip of the coin that it ended up there? Science or happenstance? In my case, with the new lines, it would be more convenient to exit from the passenger side unless there is a reason not to. Thanks.
