motor mount tower question

I pulled the big block from my 75 yesterday. I heard I need small block towers for my swap. Is this correct and where would I find them?

Re: motor mount tower question

I am usually in the 67-72 side, but I don't think that the frame towers need a swap on your 75. As I see them, the have multiple holes, to accommodate the fit. I am not sure about the engine brackets tho. You might try to post it in the 73-up forum, or PM Captian Fab for more specific info. He has played with the 'square body" trucks, & can most likely tell what is same, or different best of fun, crazyL

Re: motor mount tower question

again, I'm on a different body, but I used my I6 perches (towers) to put mine in, with the "usual" sbc to lsx adapter plates. If the towers you have now can accept the bolt pattern of a regular sbc motor mount, then you'd be able to use the adapter plates as normal.

Re: motor mount tower question

67- 72 were very specific on the stands, for the engine....3 sets of stands(well 4 ,if you count the 72 BB ). At any rate, the 67-72 spaced the sb 3 1/2" farther ahead, vs the sb bolted on I6 /250 spot. The BB came in the middle of these 2 figures, & was mounted a tad higher in the chassis on its own mounts/stands. The 73-up....I cant 'tell it" all on, but my bet is any diff on the height of the engine, will be due to the brackets that bolt to the block? Now this is just speculation, on my part.....if I am off on it, I invite all swappers in to correct the problem? I don't profess to know it all....if I missed it, lay it square I have been collecting parts , this last yr & will be doing that LS swap in my longhorn....its new to me, so any info that I pick up, will also help me! Best of fun, crazyL

Re: motor mount tower question

In my 68 frame i used towers from a 73 and up dont know if they were bb or sb specific but they make a straigt line from top of the frame rail to c member i used a piece of plate and welded the oe clamshell to it. Used the oe bottom hole on shell to line up on bottom front ls oe hole and drilled the front top hole through the center of the shell. I used the stock 73 up rubber mounts that the shells fit over. These towere allow you about 2-3 inches front and back movement of engine if you drill new holes in frame and c member and with a stock truck pan it puts about 1" of space between c member and pan. Down side is bottom of pan hanges about 1" below c member and also you would have to clearance frame to fit ac compressor in oe spot. But you may have that issue anyhow!
