transmission Crossmember

We are about to finish boxing the frame but do not have the engine and tranny to be able to mock it up and find out where the transmission crossmember will be. We were going to weld the nuts (that the bolt screw into) that hold that cross in from the inside before sealing it shut. Weldnuts (are they really strong enough for this purpose) ? Any other options? Help?

Re: transmission Crossmember

Just weld some 1/4 inch plate in or over the boxing Drill and tap for 3/8 bolts, I did that on a 57 belair, worked well

Re: transmission Crossmember

Thanks. Thats a good idea. I am not quite sure what vicinity the trans cross will be. I would like to put it inside the frame.
