New in-cab gas tank source? - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I have searched this issue, and have found lots of cool things going on with tank relocation, but that's not what I'm looking for. My 72 in cab tank started seeping, so I took it out. There is no distinct leak location, so I am assuming the seam is bad. Siphoned fuel taken out looked kinda cruddy. Considering the carb filter plugs up frequently that's no surprise.

Looking at a replacement tank, and want to know who is the best source...and best value. I don't want a new tank that won't drop in or the sender wont fit in because of crappy quality. I'm in Knoxville, TN, but I guess Fed Ex will come from anywhere!

If you want a new one from what I have hered they either made in canada (good ones) or Taiwan (bad ones). I have herd that the ones from canada fit and the ones from taiwan don't. I dprobably suggest you try gmcpauls, a board vendor who is fairly strict on quality. He is a board vendor here. Just pm him or you can go to his web site, www.gmcpauls.com nad send him an email and check out his catalog.

That's it exactly! I tried a Taiwan tank, and, and the mounting holes were almost 1" off (all of them!). The filler neck was at the wrong angle, and the top left corner was so high the tank would not fit under the upper inside cab panel. It was without a doubt the poorest reproduction part I have ever seen. I bought a Canadian tank from Goodmark, and it fit fine. Looks exactly like the original, too.

DAVE... I'M TAKING THE ONE OUT OF MY 71. IF YOU WANT TO DRIVE UP TO SOMERSET KY YOU CAN HAVE THIS EXCELLENT SHAPE ORIGINAL ONE FOR A 6 PACK OF BUD LIGHT.

Hay I have an idea, list which vendors sell the goodmark tanks ( good ones) and the Taiwan tanks ( bad ones). That way if someone needs one they will now which vendors have the good ones.

ACTUALLY IN CAB TANKS & BENCH SEATS ARE HARD TO EVEN GIVE AWAY. SOOOOOO........ IF YOU DRIVE UP & TAKE MINE YOU CAN ALSO HAVE MY JUST RECOVERED BLUE BENCH SEAT, WITHOUT A MARK ON IT.
