stuff in my fuel line

Truck is detonating a little under load. Runs fine at idle and I'm not noticing any power issues. I told a guy in my club and he looked under the hood while the engine was idling. I have one of those glass fuel filters by the carb and he noticed that the fuel wasn't completely engulging the filter (there is a long bubble of air that runs the length of the glass) and said my fuel filter is likely clogged and the carb isnt' getting enough gas. So I just put a new one in. There was a bunch (not a ton) of little tiny black rubber shavings. Like after you shave your face after a long weekend....I replaced the filter and started it up. Then I see more of them in the brand new filter. Is it time to replace my fuel line from the tank forward? Or is this stuff coming from somewhere else? I figure it is coming from a worn out line somewhere so if I might as well replace all the fuel line. But could this stuff be coming from somewhere else?

Re: stuff in my fuel line

yeah the gas tank is a pretty common cause of crap// one of the first things i do with old vehicles is flush the gas tankalso changing the rubber connection pieces is a normal preventive maintenance item

If it is black, i'd start with just hoses, if there is any brown or metal color, I'd flush the tank.
Don't expect the filter to be full all the time, I have NEVER seen one do that, and all my rigs have recieved new pumps.

Yes, it sounds as if your hose is is breaking down inside Gates fuel pcv eec hoses I have noticed are really bad about doing that. I had brand new hoses on my truck they did not last 2 months and were coming apart on the inside, and cracking apart on the outside, when I touched them it would turn my hands black. I switched to another Gates brand hose called LOLA awesome stuff I have not had a problem since!! It will also handle tranny fluid and motor oil too.
