oil pan
Does anyone know if you can remove the oil pan on a small block with it still in the truck?
Trying not to pull the motor just to put a new oil pan on. I have a 70 c10 2wd. Posted via Mobile Device |

You may need to lift the engine/tranny up with a cherry picker in order for the pan to slide out.

Disconnect the motor mounts, jack the engine up so you can get a piece of 2x4 in the space between the engine and frame mount.
If you jack against the oil pan, use a piece of wood to spread the load so you don't bend the pan. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...&postcount=195

When you jack up the motor watch for any other things that can get stretched like the rad hoses or power steering hoses or rad shroud. I unbolted my rad when I did mine and let it slide up and loosened my PS pump so the hoses could move further.

Also check the distributor especially if it's an HEI and very close to the firewall. I had to remove mine. If you have a shroud make sure the fan will clear it. Don't forget the fuel pump hose and the exhaust pipe.
Basically just use caution and make sure everything clears. |
