Question... I Need Your Thoughts?

OK, So I have a 1967 CST Long Box truck. It was originally a 327 TH400 3.73 posi. A different engine has been installed, but the Original TH400 and 3.73 posi are still there. I have the protect-o-plate and they do match. The SPID label is gone. It has been sitting at my place since about 1998 with the intention of building..."someday"
It has:
Buddy Buckets (need redone, as does everything on the truck)
Power Steering
Power brakes
Air Conditioning
Small back window

Only things of real value are the Buddy Buckets and the Posi rear end.
Of coarse there are numerous 67 only little items of value, but for the most part these are $5, $10, $25 dollar items.
The cab would need everything, such as rockers, corners, kick panels and maybe even a floor. Somewhere in its life, someone put cab lights on it and they have been removed an sitting with open holes since at least 1998 or longer. So who knows how much more damage has been done by rust that can't be seen. The long box is not usable, but I have it. The front end (fenders, grille and hood) is not usable, but I still have them, well, fenders at least.
Here is my question..
should I sell it whole as is?
Would it be better to just part it out?
Or should I just build it as a short wide box (my original thought) by using a different cab, shorten the frame and replacement body pieces.

As stated above, it doesn't have the SPID label anymore. So really if I change out the cab (even if I use the original VIN tag) its just a bunch of CST parts on a pieced together short box.
So, I guess I am wondering these values to decide if I want to build as described above or sell it to build one of my other non-CST trucks as a shortbox, just without the Buddy Buckets or Posi.

Thoughts?

CSR #1 with small back window

Re: Question... I Need Your Thoughts?

Selling it as is you might get $500 out of it as that's really just paying for the buddy buckets as the rest sounds like scrap metal and scrap prices are low now. Now you could build whatever you want, just make sure if you sell it the buyer knows it's history that's all. In the end it's usually best to build using the best parts and sell the rest to recoupe costs. You've got a few trucks to build from, so I imagine each has it's good and bad. Piece together one solid truck and sell off the rest, that's what I'd do if I had a few parts trucks...or trucks apart lol

They are as long as the cushions are present, the frame or console isn't rusted. I sold a unrestored set in nice condition for $1000.00 shipped on Fee-Bay.

Re: Question... I Need Your Thoughts?

straight six? does it have power steering? the brackets, pully's and pump are valuable too, but only sold as a unit, there were different pully's with different offsets so if ya sold the pump and brackets the rest should go with it.

I have seen reconditioned Buddy buckets go for about 1300, frames about 600.

Re: Question... I Need Your Thoughts?

Around here buddys go for $600 if complete and decent shape. Mint go higher. But when selling a parts trucks you don't get full price ever. Not when you can get trucks like this for just a bit more lol http://seattle.craigslist.org/tac/cto/4965391686.html

Parting it out will bring more $ than selling whole.

Re: Question... I Need Your Thoughts?

My current "THOUGHT" is to maybe sell the buddy buckets and the 3.73posi rearend out of it. Then use the remaining pieces as a donor parts truck for my other 67 CST that is a big window, it is more picked over and missing parts, but in better condition as far as rust in the cab. Plus, I am going to build it as a shortbox anyway and add a 9" rearend.
Also, If I can't get a worth-it amount of money for the buddy buckets, then I might just use them in this CST #2 build instead of the 60/40 late model seat I have.

CST #2 with big back window

If a short wide box is what you really want I would save the buckets and sell everything else. Hold out till you find one. You have a great chance of a nice deal on a longbed in good condition rather that the time piecing together one. Personally a cut down long bed to short is not something I would Not want.

I have short wheelbase frame to use if going to a shortbed.

Go for that! You have a nice bed to sell, too. Or were you cutting it down?

DS of bed has a pretty large dent in the rear, may be able to be pushed out and repaired. We will have to see.

Re: Question... I Need Your Thoughts?

My thoughts are this;

I would consider clipping off the roof at the pillars and cab back off and grafting them onto a donor with a good floor. Only because of the small back window. you can leave the door post in place and retain the 67 numbers. All the rest is just parts and pieces. I would probably hang onto the buddies myself. They are only going up in value and getting harder to find.
Just my thoughts. I know, weird huh?

I cant imagine what it would cost me to have a body shop do that, as I can not and do not do body work. Not only do I not have the proper tools to do that type thing, but I tried once on a friends car years ago and he said never again can I even touch a piece of sand paper in his shop.
