Hood support brackets
I noticed that the hood support brackets on my 72 GMC were not connected to the hood. Are they suppose to be? When the truck is running you can see the hood vibrating. Do they sell a cross bracket that would help support the middle of the hood?
Another question. Can you take the original left spring to a spring shop and have them arched to lift the truck? I need a 6" lift and thought that maybe I could use the existing springs. Last question. Can you remove the oil pan from a 350 without removing the crossmember underneath the pan? Thanks in advance for any help. Randy

There is pads that fit between the hood cross braces and the sheetmetal. That will stop or mellow out your vibrations. Any of the board venders has them.
Haven't done it in a LONG while, but I'm sure a spring shop can do your leafs. Best bet is ask them. I think you'r going to have to pull or at least luft the engine tio change the pan. This one I can't swear too, especially for a 4x4 ince I have never owned or seen one that close up.

Have you looked into springs from a donor vehicle that have enough lift and the correct length? I would look into getting a set of 6" lift springs, they would probably last longer and offer a better ride on and off road. If I remember correctly, you can pull the pan but it is much easier if you lift the engine up and secure it with some 2x4 blocks on top of the mounts. You will want to remove your cap if you are runnin HEI to keep it from getting crushed by the firewall. Been there done that.  Welcome to the board from Soggy Oregon. |
