I believe it will, the kits are designed to use the existing vents.

Yes, you use the factory vent, with the vent connection that VA uses in the kit, there is a marked increase in the volume of air that comes out of that vent.

Re: Will factory center vent work with vintage air unit?

I don't have a factory ac dash. The PO cut the sides for the vintage air vents but not the center vent. I think the kit is supposed to come with a center vent but I didn't get one with the truck. I'm looking for ideas so I can keep both sides of my body cool in this Texas heat

Thank you. I guess I need a center vent. Off to scour the parts section...

If you can't find OEM, the repops (Brothers) of this part is very nice.

You can get that vent from VA. I can't remember if my kit came with it or not. My kit blows way better than the original did though.

Re: Will factory center vent work with vintage air unit?

Center vent works great. My truck was not factory air and I cut the vent hole w/ an air tool & cutoff wheel. Get ready to stand on your head to get it all in there. The plenum on the back goes in and the bolts that hold the center vent in place go into blind holes - screwed in from the rear. I swore after wrestling it in there against the dash speaker bracket that if something ever went South I'd just have to do without it! When I attached the duct to it I cinched it w/ a wire tie and prayed it wouldn't blow off when the fan came on!

I bought all the center vent items from the aftermarket (non front A/C, had to cut holes) and it works great with my GenIV unit.

Is that the vintage air center vent? If so that's what I ordered earlier today

Re: Will factory center vent work with vintage air unit?

Can't speak for Beelzeburb as to where he got it... but that is exactly what you will get in the mail from VA. Mine is great, but the center vent blows most of it's air on the driver because of the way the air comes in from the passenger side into the vent.

I never dreamed my VA would cool as good as it does. Yes, on a 101deg day it works to keep up, but most times it does keep me comfortable with ease. I insulated my floor plan and tinted my window.... glad I did now.

Re: Will factory center vent work with vintage air unit?

I got my parts from Brother's. I tapped the back of the housing and cut some all-thread to the right length for my install. Like stexag said, because the air comes from one direction with the upgraded housing, it mostly blows right on the driver. Of course, the front seat passenger is free to snuggle up to the driver all she wants.
