Smile Feeling nostalgic >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Well after seeing the post on M/T valve covers, I remembered I had a set of them behind my shed that have been in the weather for the past at least 10 years. I bought them when my youngest daughter was 3 and she's 30 now. So I dug them out and just finished putting a new coat of "Krinkle Black" paint on them, and my old K&N airfilter top.
When I paint Krinkle or wrinkle paint, I clean the item up real good and put it in the oven and heat to about 175 degrees. Then I shoot a coat of paint on them, I do that three more times, then put them in the oven again at 200 degrees. (this stinks, real bad, make sure Momma is gone ) I then "Cure" the paint until it's dry to the touch, Then pull them out and before they cool, Scrape the paint off of the high spots where you don't want it. ( butter knife works great) And finally run some sand paper over the spots you removed the paint from, rough to smooth for that satin finish.
These were originally polished, but the Elcamino they were on was hit broadside, breaking the battery and spraying battery acid all over them, they were permanently "etched" So paint was the only way to go.

Old Farts????? I'll have you know I'm not OLD! Okay, maybe I do have gas every now and then....but, I'm NOT OLD! Nostalgic, maybe....

Hey, they look good. I like Wrinkle paint, and I am aware of the odor. Maybe I'll get mama a new oven and take her old one and put it in the garage where I can use it to for my automotive hobby. Yeah, that's the ticket. Wrinkle paint. Baked-on finishes. Powder coating.

John,

This "old boy" just turned 21 ( in my mind anyways) just cause the body's 50, it's just along for the ride anyway........Aren't these old trucks and my Radio Control stuff, just Big Boy Toys???? An extension of my Chilhood ?????

Chevloray,

You got the right idea, An oven all of your own to play with, And no Apple Pies.

Thanks for the compliment guys,
But it really is easy to do,If this were summer I wouldn't need the oven here on the desert, If I set these out in the Sun in July, You wouldn't be able to touch them.

Hey, If this old stuff is getting worth so much, Why aren't we??????!!!!@@@@@????????

RON

An oven in the shop is god when you are trying to press somethign in place. (braring races) just toss the hub in the oven for 15 min, and then the race will go in easier. If you have a freezer to toss the race in for that 15 min, it will almost fall into place when you go to put it all together.
Ron, that does look sharp. You thought about polishing the raised parts of the fins and lettering?
