Throttle Linkage help needed 68 C10
OK, so I am desperately seeking a way to get my truck on the road. My son and I finished a good warm over of a 350 for my 68 Short Wide. Have fired it up, done a minor break-in, filled all fluids, checked all fluids, even changed the oil from break-in. Running with uncorked headers it sounds like a beast. So whats the problem? I got no throttle linkage to get it on the road and see how much smoke this thing will produce at full throttle. The hard plastic firewall mount for the stock linkage broke when we were removing it to pull the old motor. Have no idea where to get a replacement. But, I would rather swap to cable. And that is due to a couple of reasons. Prefer the cable, and I am worried that the original linkage will be put in a pretty good bind with the high rise single plane intake and spacer plate that are under the carburetor. I have spent hours on the forum looking for the answer. And, as much as I love reading the forum and how guys have solved issues, I want to get this truck on the road. I know of the post from Scotts Rods for the Lokar set up a couple years back (yes I have gone that far back on the forum) but I would rather not have to spend that much. I know that LDF was making a bracket at one time, and I even ordered it way back before we had the new engine back in the truck. But I got a refund and notification that they were on back order. What is the quickest, easiest, and cheapest way to swap to cable for throttle linkage? Please help me get this beast on the road!!

I have never changed one over but if you type "throttle rod to cable" into the Google search box above, click on the circle in front of "67-72chevytrucks.com", and click on the "Google" button you will find quite a few threads on the subject.... I know there is at least one good detailed writeup about it. LockDoc

Re: Throttle Linkage help needed 68 C10
theres a how somewheres on the forum here. i printed it out years ago and its sittin on my desk cuz i have all the parts to do the same conversion, one of these days. i know you have to put a square hole in the firewall and im not too keen on that.
captfab on here, i think makes a easy install bracket for the pedal assy as well

I had the conversion plate that's sold here http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=371099
It's a great piece, but I sold it when I did my cab swap. It seems a little pricey but it's well worth the money. To complete it you can pull the throttle pedal out of any 70's-80's van, or chevy truck, though the trucks have a different shaped plastic pedal. It all comes apart and is easily refurbished. Best of luck! |

Technically he can't sell them on here any more because he is no longer a Premium member, and and PM sales are against board rules. Just a heads up.... LockDoc

Re: Throttle Linkage help needed 68 C10
Thanks guys, but that is bracket I was referring to that I had ordered through pay pal months ago, and had even paid for it. Then, a couple months later I got a reply that the item was no longer available and recieved a refund. Tried to just go that route....and that is why I am once again trying to figure this out. Now I am extremely motivated after I've only been able to start it up, and listen to it run in my driveway.

Wow, sorry to hear that. I do recall a tutorial on modifying the firewall for a throttle cable.

Re: Throttle Linkage help needed 68 C10
Man, that lokar set up is NICE. Really looking to save my beans, but that set up might be to nice and quality to pass up. And thanks for the link to putters mod. Would need to buy all those parts as well, and then have to mod them to make em work. That might make me lean to the lokar made to fit my application set up. If anyone else knows of another alternative, I'd appreciate the help.
